Expense Specialist

The Expense Specialist role involves auditing expense reports, ensuring compliance with guidelines, and managing various financial processes within the firm.ResponsibilitiesReviews expense reports received from firm employees and partners, checking accuracy of coding for client matters and disbursement codesEnsures expenditures are in compliance with firm and tax authority guidelines, verifying that appropriate supporting documentation is includedCommunicate orally and/or in writing any issues with the person submitting the expense report, adjusting expense reports as neededDemonstrates effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills to facilitate effective work relationships with othersAdds notations and appends imaged documents as neededProcesses weekly check/ACH payments and distribution of paymentsProcesses files received from internal and external sources related to firm expenditures, reviewing for accuracy and completenessReconcile and correct rejected transactionsPrepare AP sessions if appropriateManually enter and post client disbursement batches received from Firm's domestic and international officesAdjust time entries as requestedComplies with and understands Firm operation, policies and proceduresManages Firm resources responsiblyPerforms non-routine assignments and other special projectsPerforms other related duties as assignedSkillsKnowledge of relevant firm computer software programs (e.g., Chrome River, Aderant, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), with the ability to learn new software and operating systemsThorough knowledge of bookkeeping practicesDemonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and in writingDemonstrates close attention to detailAbility to handle multiple projects and shifting prioritiesAbility to handle sensitive matters and maintain confidentialityAbility to organize and prioritize workAbility to work well in a demanding and fast-paced environmentAbility to work well independently as well as effectively within a teamFlexibility to adjust hours and work the hours necessary to meet operating and business needsHigh School Diploma or equivalentMinimum six months' related experienceBenefitsCompetitive salaries and year-end discretionary bonuses.Comprehensive health care (medical, dental, vision), savings plan/401(k) and voluntary benefits.Generous paid time off.Paid leave options, including parental.In-classroom, remote, and on-demand learning and professional development opportunities.Robust well-being classes and programs.Opportunities to give back and make an impact in local communities.Company OverviewSkadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP and Affiliates delivers the highest quality advice and novel solutions to legal challenges, enabling clients to achieve their business goals.
