About the Role
Heartland Builders is seeking a detail-focused and proactive Estimator to support our growing pipeline of agricultural and food processing facilities design-build construction projects. This role is ideal for candidates with estimating experience in general construction-including commercial or light industrial-who have a passion for agriculture, rural communities, and the opportunity to grow into a leadership role in preconstruction.
As an Estimator at Heartland Builders, you’ll play a key part in scoping and pricing projects that serve livestock, equine, and other agricultural markets. You’ll work remotely, collaborate with subcontractors, and support client needs from early budgeting through proposal development. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to deepen their knowledge and grow into a Preconstruction Manager role with more design engagement over time.

What You’ll Do
• Review plans and preliminary designs to develop accurate quantity takeoffs and pricing
• Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor quotes across multiple trades and markets
• Prepare detailed estimates and proposal documentation for internal review and client presentation
• Collaborate with project management, field, and preconstruction teams to align budgets and scopes
• Support client communications and occasional design discussions, with opportunity to expand involvement over time
• Assist in scope development, value engineering, and risk assessment for design-build proposals
What We’re Looking For
• 3–5+ years of estimating experience in general construction (agricultural, commercial, or light industrial projects)
• Strong interest or life experience in agriculture, livestock operations, or rural construction
• Comfortable working with subcontractors and vendor pricing across various scopes of work
• Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple estimates concurrently
• Proficient in reading plans, specs, and bid documentation
• Self-starter, highly organized, and comfortable working remotely
• Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required
