Engineering Manager, Home Content Journey

Home is the default screen in the Spotify app, surfacing the best of what Spotify has to offer, including music and podcasts for every situation, personalized playlists, new releases, old favorites, and undiscovered gems. The Home Personalization Product Area consists of several teams that are focused on matching users to compelling audio content, by combining our broad content catalog with machine learning personalization technologies. To do this, we rely on a deep understanding of our user's listening habits and tastes. We are looking for an Engineering Manager with experience in backend engineering to further develop the team that owns the core systems that drive the personalization of the Home page today. These systems sit at the front of the Home architecture, closer to our clients (mobile, desktop, etc) and are extremely important to evolving how home works. In this role, you will lead a team of Engineers, and will collaborate with a product manager, Experience teams, promotions, Ads, and of course, Home PZN squads to define and shape a strong product roadmap and technical strategy. You will also be responsible for the backend system on call rotation that spans multiple squads across Home Foundation and the larger observability strategy for Home. You'll have direct influence in how home loads today, going beyond the single request load to incremental and pull to refresh loading paradigms that require close partnership with Experience mission. What You'll Do • Partner closely with Home Content and Home Construction teams to understand their pain points and anticipate their needs by identifying trends and not over-engineering to support those trends • Work closely with the Experience mission to evolve the incremental loading and pull to refresh paradigms on Home • Create a team culture that prioritizes platform stability and enablement so that Home Content and Home Construction teams trust infrastructure they're using works, with little-to-no operational maintenance on their end • Develop an engineering strategy that enables Home PZN to focus on content and programming strategies by building infrastructure to support the content lifecycle: creation, experimentation and management • Establish and lead all aspects of your group's tech strategy to ensure its product strategy can be achieved • Grow a balanced, collaborative engineering culture in line with the Spotify band manifesto • Be a key member of the squad group leadership team and collaborate with other leaders in the organization, especially your product partner • You will be based in or near the eastern time zone but occasionally travel globally Who You Are • You love creating an engineering vision and collaborating with product leads to evolve and refine it • You communicate well regardless of the audience, fine tuning the words and narrative accordingly • You love developing and growing teams and their leaders and have a proven track record of doing so • You have significant expertise in and passion for building engineering platforms that enable engineering teams to support their product strategies • You have experience shaping a tech strategy • You're passionate about building capabilities that deliver an excellent, safe and trusted experience, to our internal partners and to Spotify users across the world! Where You'll Be • This role is based in New York City • We offer you the flexibility to work where you work best! There will be some in person meetings, but still allows for flexibility to work from home The United States base range for this position is $160,091 - $228,702 plus equity. The benefits available for this position include health insurance, six month paid parental leave, 401(k) retirement plan, monthly meal allowance, 23 paid days off, 13 paid flexible holidays, paid sick leave.
