E-Learning Elementary Virtual Copy Editor
Accelerate Education is seeking skilled copy editors to ensure that lessons, worksheets, and assessments are free of errors, easy to read and conform to Accelerate Education's style. Accelerate Education is seeking individuals with a passion for writing, a sharp eye for detail and the ability to work well under pressure.
Copy editors will begin the editing process by fixing any grammatical, punctuation and spelling errors within our content management system. They also double check that names, places and organizations are spelled properly. This may involve conducting online research. Copy editors also write headlines and subheads for lessons.
Our lessons employ one style guide that dictates writing standards, such as tense, voice or the spelling of certain words (Accelerate provides this guide). Copy editors ensure that lessons are written in accordance with the style guide.
The role includes:
• checking text to ensure it is well written, logically structured and in the right style for the intended audience and grade level
• correcting grammar and spelling
• ensuring the text is in line with the publisher's style - for example, that hyphens, capital letters and optional spellings are used consistently
• checking facts
• raising queries with the manager
• being alert to any potential legal problems in the text, such as libelous statements or breach of copyright, and discussing them with the manager
• checking illustrations and captions are correct
Job Types: Full-time, Temporary, Contract
Pay: $25.00 - $28.00 per hour
