The Global Risk & Compliance (GRC) Organization is an independent risk management function, led by the Chief Risk Officer (CRO), with the objective of ensuring that American Express operates in a safe, sound, and fully compliant manner with all applicable regulatory expectations. GRC creates and maintains the overall risk management framework, performs independent risk management assessments, and monitors applicable risks.

The Operational Risk Management (ORM) team facilitates and monitors the implementation of effective operational risk management programs throughout the organization, and oversees risk ownership throughout business units, products, and processes.

ORM is looking for a Director Assistant to support the Chief Operational Risk Officer (CORO)and team, leading planning, team management and strategic initiatives, in addition to strong management and partnership to the Chief Operational Risk Officer and their leadership team.

The incumbent will be a key member of the ORM leadership team and will play a key role in shaping strategies across the organization and driving results. They will be expected to provide thought and executional leadership on organizational effectiveness, talent management, strategic priorities and goals. They will have the opportunity to work across a wide range of strategic, analytic, engagement and communications initiatives and have manage strong relationships with the ORM team and key stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
• Provide strategic, analytical and decision support on a wide range of complex projects and initiatives
• Coordinate and contribute to impactful and engaging presentations & engagement activities such as Senior Executive Management Presentations, Board and Management Committees, Strategic Projects, Town Halls and Business Unit Review (BUR) presentations
• Play key role in building the ORM strategy and support business planning and operations (e.g. annual budget and investment planning, risk and finance reviews, etc.)
• Manage key Stakeholders/Relationships both within and outside of team
• Partner with Colleague Experience Group to drive execution of annual processes – talent planning, performance management, etc.
• Manage ORM colleague engagement strategy and communications & cadences including leadership team meetings, town halls, market visits, etc.
• Support day-to-day activities within the executive office and across the broader organization

Minimum Qualifications:
• The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated self-starter who is able to lead projects with limited guidance, provide strategic thought leadership and challenge the status quo
• Operational Risk knowledge is a plus but not required; intellectual curiosity and a desire to become an expert in Operational Risk if no prior Operational Risk experience
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously within tight deadlines, great follow-up and attention to detail, works well in a fast paced and dynamic environment
• Excellent project management and organizational skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong executive presence
• Experience in budget management
• Demonstrated relationship management skills with proven ability to influence with limited direct authority
• Able to produce innovative, creative, and impactful materials for a variety of senior executives
• High level of integrity and the ability to handle sensitive issues with complete confidentiality
• Flexible and adaptable; able to re-prioritize and multi-task based on the tasks at hand

Salary Range: $130,000.00 to $205,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
