About the Role Mercor is partnering with one of the world’s leading AI research labs to engage experienced Data Scientists in developing robust, high-performance systems that power next-generation machine learning applications. In this role, you will perform hands-on data science work — from experiment design and data preprocessing to model development, evaluation, and deployment. You will also play a key role in writing, reviewing, and validating prompt-based datasets that train AI systems to think and reason more effectively. This is a remote, part-time opportunity ideal for data scientists who thrive in research-driven, highly technical environments. 2. Key Responsibilities • Design and execute data science experiments for AI model development and evaluation. • Collect, preprocess, and analyze structured and unstructured datasets. • Build and validate machine learning models using modern frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, etc.). • Conduct feature engineering, data wrangling, and statistical inference for experimentation and model optimization. • Write, review, and validate prompt-based questions and tasks used to train advanced AI models. • Collaborate closely with engineering and research teams to deploy production-ready solutions. 3. Ideal Qualifications • 3+ years of professional experience in data science or applied analytics. • Proficiency in Python (Jupyter Notebooks) and libraries such as NumPy, Pandas, SciPy, SymPy, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch. • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field from the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, or New Zealand. • Strong foundation in: • Exploratory data analysis and statistical inference • Machine learning workflows and model evaluation • Feature engineering, data preprocessing, and wrangling • A/B testing, experimentation, or causal inference • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. • Meticulous attention to detail and data quality. 4. More About the Opportunity • Commitment: 20 –40 hours per week (with potential to scale up to 80) • Schedule: Fully remote and asynchronous — work on your own time • Duration: Minimum 1 month, with potential extension based on performance • Start Date: Early September (applications reviewed on a rolling basis) 5.
