Data Migration Specialist (CSTHS Division) - U.S. Based - Remote

Remote Full-time
Summary Description:
Lyrasis is seeking a Data Migration Specialist to extract, transform, and load client data from their legacy cultural heritage system(s) into Lyrasis-operated, open-source software platforms. Lyrasis-hosted platforms today include ArchivesSpace, CollectionSpace, and DSpace. The Specialist will also create and maintain the tools used for such migrations.
The ideal candidate will provide excellent technical support and customer service, effectively deal with stressful situations and meet firm deadlines. This individual must be able to work with other project managers and client stakeholders to define functional requirements, communicate complex issues effectively to all parties, work in a fast-paced environment on time sensitive projects, and possess a great attitude. This is a remote position working with a distributed team.
Duties/Job Responsibilities:

Analyze prospective client data in order to determine the feasibility and cost of a prospective migration project.
Manage migration projects for Lyrasis clients by producing project plans and timelines for clients, adhering to these deadlines, generating realistic expectations, and communicating clearly with clients and other stakeholders.
Analyze clients' legacy data/data models, and advise them on the best way to clean-up, manipulate and prepare their data for migration into Lyrasis ‐hosted platforms.
Assist clients with creating data maps, including consulting on solutions for data fields that do not map directly and identifying data functionality tradeoffs in the target system for different mapping options.
Develop, maintain, and document migration tooling to facilitate the extraction, transformation and loading of legacy data that may also be re-purposed for other migration projects.
Perform special data change and data cleanup projects on an as-needed basis.
Provide excellent technical support to Lyrasis hosting clients.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of and experience with cultural heritage organizations' operations, workflows, data/metadata, and repository infrastructure.
Knowledge of current and emerging content and encoding standards for metadata, such as EAD, IIIF, MARCXML, MODS, METS, RDA, and SPECTRUM.
High comfort level with Unix/Linux, a shell prompt, scripting, PostgresSQL/SQL, or other relational databases, and wrangling data in XML, JSON, and CSV formats.
Familiarity with data ETL tools and techniques.
The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Strong customer service focus.
Ability to succeed in a team environment and in a remote organization with minimum direction.
A commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment where differences and complexities in background, cultures, values, and viewpoints are valued.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Experience working on a remote team.
Experience operating or managing open-source collections management/repository systems, such as ArchivesSpace, CollectionSpace, DSpace, Fedora Commons, Islandora, or Samvera.

Additional Notes: All applications should include a resume and cover letter or brief statement of interest in the position. Position includes potential for occasional travel for team meetings or visits.
Applications will accepted until the position is filled but review of applications will begin on DATE, 2024.
You should apply even if you don't feel that your credentials are a 100% match with the position description. We are looking for relevant skills and experience, not a checklist that exactly matches the position itself. The position is part of a geographically and institutionally distributed team, and, as such, applications from candidates interested in telecommuting are welcome.
