Summary Coordinator Specialty Financial Clearance Unit

Position Highlights:

As a Coordinator Specialty Financial Clearance Unit at Moffitt Cancer Center, you are responsible for reviewing scheduled appointments, planned surgeries and planned admissions to ensure all aspects of eligibility and insurance approval have been met for each encounter. Your attention to detail is critical as you review each patient’s treatment plan and insurance benefits to ensure that all information is accurate and that authorization is obtained from the payor and/or primary care physician. You must be highly methodical and focused and make effective use of your time to achieve your daily performance goals. As a Coordinator Specialty Financial Clearance Unit you are responsible for additional functions related to the operation of the Financial Clearance Unit. Coordinator Specialty Financial Clearance Unit works directly with ordering physicians and their clinical teams, payers and patients. Coordinator Specialty Financial Clearance Unit maintains expertise in insurance requirements and authorization workflows; organizes, communicates and educates team members on process changes. Successful Coordinators Specialty Financial Clearance Unit have strong computer skills, are comfortable with medical terminology, are organized and thrive in a highly structured environment. Supporting the unique needs of cancer patients, Financial Clearance Specialists must remain calm under pressure and work comfortably with tight deadlines and competing priorities. Coordinators Specialty Financial Clearance Unit work independently but are flexible and collaborate to ensure that the department’s goals are met. Proven ability to take initiative, exercise independent judgment, exceed quality and productivity expectations and pro-actively problem solve.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Insurance Verification and Authorization

Job Specific Duties:


Ensure all aspects of insurance approval, according to each patient’s insurance benefits, have been met for each patient encounter by reviewing scheduled appointments, planned surgeries and planned admissions
Accurately capture information / document in the registration system the correct payor and health plan, procedure and diagnosis codes and identification numbers
Ensures accuracy of all information conveyed in authorization request and addresses errors in a timely fashion through continual, direct collaboration with team members.
Identifies system, process, practice or other changes that impact authorization outcomes and participates in process improvement initiatives to mitigate impacts or risks


Permanent communication with stakeholders

Job Specific Duties:


Communicate with ordering providers, clinical teams, patients and insurance company representatives to ensure payment has been secured and patient is financially cleared prior to appointments
Promptly and appropriately escalates issues and service failures that cannot be resolved independently
Ability to deal effectively and courteously with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders


Ongoing Training

Job Specific Duties:


Responsible for specific functions (reports, work lists, projects) essential in the financial clearance process Assists with Financial Clearance Unit Specialist on-boarding and provides ongoing mentorship, contributes to maintenance and develop of training material
Maintains expertise in insurance requirements and authorization workflows; organizes, communicates, and educates team members on policy changes
Identifies system, process, practice, or other changes that impact authorization outcomes and participates in process improvement initiatives to mitigate impacts or risks
Regularly updates the supervisor on challenges enrolling patients or system issues


Other job-specific duties as assigned

Experience:

Minimum Requirement


Associate degree plus two (2) years’ experience in Revenue Cycle functions as hospital registration, insurance verification and insurance pre- certification/authorization with a healthcare provider or insurance company.
*In lieu of an Associate's degree, may consider two (2) additional years’ experience in Revenue Cycle functions as hospital registration, insurance verification and insurance precertification/ authorization with a healthcare provider or insurance company; for a total of four (4) years experience.


Preferred:


Experience and/or certification in one of the cancer specialties (Infusion, Radiation Oncology, Surgery, BMT, Radiology)
Proven ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-pace environment while demonstrating a positive attitude and empathy
Strong oral and written communication
Strong interpersonal skills and customer service orientation
Strives to maintain highest service standards at all times with minimal supervision
Experience on authorization process
Financial Clearance Unit Specialist Level 3
