Controller - VC backed start up

We're working with a start-up in an innovative space who is looking for a dynamic Controller with significant transformation experience. You will play a critical role in shaping the company's financial foundation driving GAAP-compliant reporting, leading the audit process, modernizing the company’s financial infrastructure, and building scalable policies and processes. As a key partner to Finance leadership and cross-functional stakeholders, you will help build and lead a high-performing accounting team and have a true seat at the table as the company scales. Key Responsibilities: • Lead the accounting function, building the team, systems, and processes needed to support growth and scalability. • Oversee the general ledger, month-end close, and GAAP-compliant financial reporting, ensuring accuracy, timely close, and strong reconciliations. • Lead the NetSuite ERP implementation and migration, partnering with internal and external stakeholders to configure core modules and validate data. • Own technical accounting and audit readiness, including preparing position memos, supporting the annual audit, and managing financial statements and disclosures. • Oversee billing, accounts receivable, budgeting, and forecasting, while driving process improvements, automation, and collection efficiency. • Develop and maintain accounting policies, internal controls, and cross-functional collaboration across Finance, Operations, Product, and Sales. Qualifications and Skills: • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field; Active CPA required. • Minimum of 8 years of accounting experience; prior controller or assistant controller experience highly desired. • Strong proficiency in Excel, Word and Powerpoint. Experience with financial systems and ERP platforms (NetSuite) is a plus. • Demonstrated experience in technical accounting • Proven ability to manage the audit process and ensure compliance with all regulatory and technical accounting standards. • Ability to roll up your sleeves and work hands-on with the team to ensure accuracy and timeliness in all accounting processes. • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, with a proactive, can-do attitude and a passion for tackling challenges.
