About the position The Contract Specialist at Emory University plays a crucial role in supporting the Office of Technology Transfer (OTT) by reviewing, drafting, and managing various contracts and agreements related to intellectual property and academic research. This position involves significant interaction with faculty, staff, and external organizations to ensure compliance and effective management of agreements, particularly material transfer agreements (MTAs). Responsibilities • Assist faculty and staff in reviewing, drafting, and managing contracts and agreements related to intellectual property and academic research. • Draft, negotiate, and finalize confidential disclosure agreements, research collaboration agreements, and material/software evaluation agreements with minimal oversight. • Provide contracting support by preparing various agreements including royalty sharing agreements and license agreements for research tools. • Collaborate with the Office of Sponsored Programs to review and draft intellectual property language in sponsored research and grant award agreements. • Manage the day-to-day operations of the material transfer agreement (MTA) program, including reviewing, negotiating, and finalizing MTAs. • Interact independently with faculty, staff, and representatives of academic and commercial organizations to ensure MTA compliance. • Oversee the MTA-related duties of supporting OTT administrative staff and ensure the accuracy of MTA records. • Prepare periodic reports as requested and provide support to licensing professionals on technology management and licensing matters. Requirements • Bachelor's degree, preferably in business administration or a science discipline. • Two years of related experience in contract drafting, reviewing, and negotiating, preferably in research administration or technology licensing. Nice-to-haves • Experience in intellectual property law. • Familiarity with academic research agreements.
