Part-Time Conservation Planner Immediate, Part-Time (15-20 hours per week) ($23-$28 per hour DOE) MCRCD & PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Madera/Chowchilla Resource Conservation District is a special district dedicated to resource concerns in and around Madera County, has an immediate opening for a part-time Conservation Planner with an emphasis on conservation planning and outreach to help with the implementation and reporting of resource conservation projects that the District and/or its partners undertake under contract with various agencies, organizations and individuals. This part-time position will work under project agreements to help with planning and implementation, and will assist with securing additional funding for sustainability. Current projects focus on soil health management systems, producer incentive payments, and sustainable groundwater. Conservation Planner must be willing to assist with application process and work professionally and courteously as representative of MCRCD and our partners while interacting with local, state and federal entities and personnel. In addition, Conservation Planner will become part of the team at the MCRCD and must be willing to assist with a wide variety of projects (including other agriculture related projects) in order to help the team work best. Qualified candidates must be able to communicate technical information collected in projects, clearly and effectively, both written and verbally, with partners, community members and staff. GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
The Madera/Chowchilla Resource Conservation District is currently seeking applications for a highly motivated Conservation Planner to assist in the implementation of voluntary projects on agricultural properties to improve water quality, reduce farm runoff and restore habitat. The incumbent, in collaboration with other staff, will be involved in all aspects of conservation projects, including initiating contact with cooperators, identifying conservation needs, developing conservation plans, facilitating permits, supervising implementation. The incumbent will work on a team to develop, promote and implement conservation management measures and practices that integrate with conventional and organic farm operations, such as range and pasture management, nutrient management, erosion and sediment control, and habitat restoration. Other responsibilities include writing grant proposals and reports, participating on technical advisory committees, presenting at educational and training events and working collaboratively with partner organizations and agencies to provide input on technical documents and reports. The prospective employee shall have demonstrated skills using GIS and GPS technologies QUALIFYING SKILLS
Proficiency with ArcGIS and GPS. Bachelorʹs degree in the natural sciences or a related field with course work in soil science, botany, range management or conservation planning. Desire to achieve the mission of the RCD:
to provide technical assistance and educational programs to landowners, helping them to conserve natural resources. Ability to exercise professional judgment in the planning, design and implementation of conservation projects and take initiative in fulfilling programmatic and grant related obligations. Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software. Excellent communication skills, organizational skills and multitasking ability. Highly motivated, self-directing, and ability to prioritize and coordinate workload. Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team. Candidates must possess, or be able to obtain, a valid driver's license and proof of insurance. A background check is required upon employment. This position is part-time, temporary, as funding allows. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Three or more years professional experience. Experience engaging and collaborating with diverse groups and stakeholders, including landowners, growers, industry representatives, researchers, nonprofits, public agencies and citizens. Knowledge of production agriculture and/or natural resource conservation principles and science, specifically rangeland management, nutrient management, hydrology, erosion, stormwater runoff, and/or native plants and animals. Ability to identify circumstances and obtain permits for projects that have a nexus with the regulatory authority of local, state or federal agencies. Experience with revegetation planning and restoration. Course work in soil science, hydrology, and orchard management. This position is part-time, temporary, as funding allows. Occasional weekends or evenings may be required with advance notice. This position may provide flexibility around college courses for current students. Current students must be able to commit to a minimum of 20 hours per week, on a routine schedule, during the school year, with an increase to 30 hours per week during the summer. Close Date:
