About the position The Commercial Lending Portfolio Manager at The Washington Trust Company will play a crucial role in managing a credit portfolio of Commercial & Industrial (C&I) clients, including owner-occupied commercial real estate and not-for-profit credits. This position is integral to the growth strategy of the division and involves overseeing the Securities Based Lending portfolio. The role supports a hybrid work environment with on-site availability in Providence or Westerly offices. Responsibilities • Provide in-depth, independent analysis of financial statements and management competencies for new/renewal opportunities. • Make recommendations regarding credit amounts, structure, and adherence to policies and regulations. • Manage assigned portfolio by monitoring performance, ensuring risk rating integrity, and compliance with reporting and covenants. • Participate in client calls to address financial questions and gather necessary documentation. • Ensure timely renewals of loan maturities and completion of annual file updates. • Participate in special projects to improve portfolio management processes. Requirements • Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting with formal credit training desired. • 5+ years of experience in commercial underwriting, including C&I, owner-occupied real estate, and not-for-profit. • Experience in construction loan underwriting and administration is desired. • Advanced analytical skills to analyze balance sheet structure and cash flow trends. • Proficiency in financial statement spreading and preparing pro-forma statements. • Excellent written, oral, organizational, and interpersonal skills. • Strong knowledge of loan documentation requirements. • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines independently or in a team environment. • PC proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
