About the Department and Special Education Program The Department of Educational Studies at Purdue University is a vibrant community of scholars dedicated to advancing knowledge and practice in education. The Special Education Program, part of this department, is committed to preparing future educators, researchers, and leaders in special education and applied behavior analysis. With a focus on both evidence-based and innovative practices, the program aims to meet the diverse needs of learners. The program offers a range of degrees, including a Ph.D. in Educational Studies with a concentration in Special Education, a Master of Science in Applied Behavior Analysis, and a Bachelor of Arts degree with licensure options in special education. Key Responsibilities Teach a variety of undergraduate courses (3/3 load + course coordination) in areas such as student teaching, field seminars, academic instructional methods, and inclusive pedagogy. Serve as a course/program representative on college teacher education committees, rotating with other special education faculty members. Maintain a record of scholarly productivity that is commensurate with a clinical faculty position and related to core teaching and service responsibilities. Guide doctoral students in their area of expertise, providing mentorship and support. Contribute to the development of courses and programs, ensuring they remain relevant and effective. Participate in faculty service requirements, contributing to the department's and university's governance and initiatives. Qualifications and Requirements Essential Qualifications Hold a Ph.D. in special education or a closely related field. Have a minimum of three years of teaching experience in a public U.S. PK-12 school, working with students with disabilities. Demonstrate evidence of scholarly productivity (e.g., publications and/or presentations related to teacher preparation) commensurate with a clinical position. Show evidence of effective instruction within teacher preparation. Be able to teach courses in two or more of the following areas: student teaching, field seminars, academic instructional methods, and inclusive pedagogy. Preferred Qualifications A record of instructional innovation and leadership. Engagement and leadership in professional organizations. Experience in course or program development and an interest in instructional innovation. Experience with edTPA, student teacher mentorship, and/or field experience supervision. Familiarity with SPA, state review, or CAEP accreditation processes. Experience with assistive technology.
