Civil Engineering Design Technician – Grand Rapids, MI (on-site, hybrid, or remote) DISHER is helping to fill a Civil Engineering Design Technician for a leading national architecture and engineering firm that designs innovative and sustainable commercial, industrial, and retail facilities across the US. As Civil Engineering Design Technician, you will support land development and infrastructure projects nationwide, prepare engineering drawings, collaborate with project teams, and ensure regulatory compliance. What you'll get to do: • Assist in the preparation of engineering drawings, plans and specifications for various civil engineering projects, including site development, transportation and utilities. • Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D) to create detailed drawings and models based on project requirements and standards. • Collaborate with engineers and project managers to develop design concepts, layouts and construction details that meet project objectives and regulatory requirements. • Gather surveys, topographic data, utility locations, local jurisdictional requirements and codes as well as zoning requirements and other relevant information for project planning and design. • Analyze survey data and aerial imagery to assess site conditions, identify constraints, and develop design solutions that optimize land use and infrastructure layout. • Assist in the preparation of technical reports, calculations and design memoranda to support project planning, permitting and regulatory compliance. • Review and interpret engineering plans, specifications and standards to ensure accuracy, completeness and compliance with project requirements. • Maintain organized project files and documentation, including drawings, correspondence, and design revisions to facilitate efficient project management and communication. • Coordinate with internal teams, external consultants and regulatory agencies to obtain necessary approvals and permits for project implementation. • Communicate effectively with project stakeholders, including clients, contractors and suppliers, to clarify design requirements, address inquiries and resolve technical issues. • Participate in project meetings, design reviews and construction site visits as needed to support project progress and ensure quality control. What will make you successful: • Associate degree or diploma in civil engineering technology or related field; bachelor’s degree preferred. • At least 5 years of experience in the civil engineering field, preferably in the land development sector. • Proficient in using AutoCAD and Civil 3D. • Proven track record of successfully delivering complex and large-scale projects within scope, budget, and schedule. • Strong technical knowledge of civil engineering principals, practices, and standards, including site grading, drainage and utility design. • Detail-oriented approach to work, with a focus on accuracy, efficiency and continuous improvement. • Excellent organizational, communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment. • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
