Billing and Coding Associate

Remote Full-time
Re‑architecting U.S. healthcare demands speed, precision, and an obsession with details. Cadence is building a remote care delivery system that keeps older people healthy, out of the hospital, and at home. By pairing each patient with a dedicated clinical team that reviews their health every day, versus every few months, we catch issues early and intervene before they escalate. The result: measurably better outcomes for patients and less administrative burden for clinicians.

Today, Cadence supports tens of thousands of active patients nationwide. Our AI‑powered system and scalable clinical model enable proactive, population‑level care. We’re among the fastest‑growing companies in healthtech, and we’re just getting started.

The Cadence Solutions team seeks a Medical Billing and Coding Associate who brings both billing experience and coding expertise to drive our claims processing operations. You’ll play a crucial role in ensuring accurate and timely reimbursement while also serving as the in-house coding authority. You’ll be hands-on with systems, workflows, and problem-solving. This role is ideal for someone who is a self-starter, thrives on ownership, and enjoys building efficient workflows in an agile, technology enabled setting.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:
• Own day-to-day claims processing: submit claims, track denials, post payments, and manage re-submissions.
• Serve as internal coding expert: provide guidance to the clinical and operations teams on correct coding practices. Offering real-time guidance and training as needed.
• Identify and resolve issues: proactively troubleshoot claim rejections, denials, and underpayments to improve financial performance.
• Maintain compliance: Stay current with CMS and payer telehealth billing policies and ensure adherence to billing and coding rules.
• Contribute to process development: Help refine and implement scalable RCM workflows, working closely with product and clinical operations teams to improve documentation and billing accuracy.
• Technology Use: Leverage EHR, billing software, and clearinghouses to efficiently manage daily claims operations.
• Work cross-functionally: collaborate with clinical operations, finance, and product teams to improve workflows, quality, and automation.
• Internal Reviews: Support internal billing audits and reviews by preparing coding documentation, identifying compliance risks, and participating in remediation or training efforts.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
• 2+ years of hands-on medical billing and coding experience, in a primary care or outpatient setting
• Certified Professional Coder
• Proficiency with billing software, clearinghouses, and EHR systems.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Passion for the patient/customer experience and systematically improving healthcare with digital innovation.
• Independent thinker/operator (comfortable working in a less structured environment).
• Prior experience working with virtual care or telemedicine organizations strongly preferred.
• Athenahealth experience preferred.
• Knowledge of payer-specific guidelines for telehealth services across Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurers.
• Claims lifecycle proficiency
• Coding expertise and accuracy
• Experience working in a startup or small team environment is preferred.
