Job Summary We are seeking a highly qualified candidate for the tenure-track position of Assistant Professor in the Department of English. The successful candidate will be expected to teach a range of courses, including writing-intensive programs, develop and teach new courses that align with their expertise, and contribute to the department's scholarship and service missions. Key Responsibilities Teach 12 hours per semester across a broad range of courses, including: First-Year Writing Professional/technical writing Medical writing Digital writing Content/new media writing Big data writing Writing in the disciplines (WID) Develop and teach new courses that reflect the candidate's strengths and interests Perform departmental and university service, including committee work and advising students Maintain an active scholarly agenda, including research, publication, and presentation Contribute to the department's mission to provide high-quality education and promote a culture of excellence Requirements and Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in English or a related field from a regionally accredited university Evidence of teaching excellence An active research agenda Preferred Qualifications: Expertise in writing studies, with the ability to teach on-campus and online courses Knowledge of generative AI technology Experience with curriculum development and program assessment Strong communication and interpersonal skills Skills and Competencies Excellent teaching and communication skills Strong research and writing abilities Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion Flexibility and adaptability in a rapidly changing academic environment Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits Fort Hays State University is committed to the professional growth and development of its faculty members.
