Assistant Office Engineer TE2 (In-Training) - Multiple

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is a multimodal agency with a global reputation for excellence. They are currently seeking multiple Assistant Office Engineers to support the construction engineering process and ensure compliance with project specifications and regulations.ResponsibilitiesPrepare monthly progress estimates, construction reports, and various administrative documents, including force account rates, change orders, and contract recordsSupport contract closeout, material documentation, and overall construction administration, utilizing Unifier for the administration of construction contractsCheck and compute field note records for use in calculating project quantities and paymentsReview contract records, enter and check contract computer ledger entries, and review contract material submittals for conformance to requirementsAssist or direct others in documenting construction activities, including materials verification, field note records, and DBE trackingPerform inspections at project sites, measure and record material quantities, and visually inspect material installations for conformance with contract plans and specificationsCoordinate with contractor representatives regarding schedule and clarify questions pertaining to contract documents and prepare and coordinate contract estimates and final recordsPerform drafting and design using CADD and support design project scheduling using Primavera P6SkillsPossesses strong knowledge and skill in reviewing, processing, and maintaining construction contract documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with WSDOT contract requirements, plans, and specificationsDemonstrates a high level of attention to detail and accuracy in verifying field records, daily reports, material certifications, and payment documentationDemonstrated ability to read, interpret, and comprehend engineering plans, specifications, and contract provisionsSkilled in performing engineering-related calculations using tools such as Microsoft ExcelCapable of reviewing Contractor submittals, shop drawings, and working drawings for technical accuracy and conformance to standards and specificationsAbility to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with a variety of audiences including contractors, inspectors, and other industry representativesDemonstrates professionalism and clarity in correspondence and technical documentationWorks collaboratively within a team environment and effectively conveys technical information to diverse audiencesDemonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain organization in a fast-paced construction environmentSkilled in independently identifying, analyzing, and resolving documentation or compliance issuesEffectively balances workload across multiple projects, meets deadlines, and contributes to team objectives while adapting to changing priorities or project conditionsActively demonstrates a commitment to learning and growthTakes action to meet the needs of othersA valid driver's license and the ability to operate state-owned vehiclesAbility to travel within the region to perform inspection duties at project sitesAbility to traverse rough, steep, and uneven terrain and work elevated heights, above 25 feet over land or waterAbility to maneuver and transport various materials and/or equipment weighing up to 50 poundsAbility to work nights, weekends, holidays to support construction activities or to respond to non-scheduled or emergency projectsCertification as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT), or equivalent applied work experiencePossesses knowledge and understanding of transportation engineering principles and practices related to highway constructionDemonstrates familiarity with surveying methods, roadway geometrics, and materials sampling and testing procedures used in transportation projectsBenefitsWork-Life BalancePaid LeaveTuition AssistanceInsurance BenefitsRetirement And Deferred CompensationSocial SecurityPublic Service Loan ForgivenessHolidaysSick LeaveVacation (Annual Leave)Military LeaveBereavement LeaveAdditional LeaveLeave SharingParental LeaveFamily and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)Leave Without PayCompany OverviewWashington state public employees help to create a working Washington built on education and innovation, where all Washingtonians thrive.
