Aquatic Biologist 9-P11/12 (Water Toxics Unit)
About the position
Responsibilities
• Serve as a crew member to collect and process fish from Michigan's Areas of Concern (AOCs), the Great Lakes, and its tributaries.
• Assist with caged fish studies to assess chemical concentrations in select Great Lakes tributaries.
• Assist with field collection gear cleaning and maintenance.
• Enter data received from the analytical laboratory into the FCMP database.
• Oversee fish collections from Michigan's Areas of Concern (AOCs), the Great Lakes, and its tributaries.
• Maintain and clean FCMP field collection gear and equipment.
• Coordinate staff training to build capacity for FCMP sample collection and maintain the Section's training matrix.
Requirements
• Possession of a bachelor's degree in the natural or physical sciences with at least 24 semester (36 term) credits in relevant fields such as aquatic biology, environmental science, or fisheries biology.
• No specific experience required for Aquatic Biologist 9.
• One year of professional experience in assessing the effects of pollution on aquatic life for Aquatic Biologist 10.
• Two years of professional experience in assessing the effects of pollution on aquatic life for Aquatic Biologist P11, including one year equivalent to an Aquatic Biologist 10.
• Three years of professional experience in assessing the effects of pollution on aquatic life for Aquatic Biologist 12, including one year equivalent to an Aquatic Biologist P11.
Nice-to-haves
• Experience with environmental monitoring study design and implementation.
• Familiarity with Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP) development and implementation.
• Experience in environmental monitoring data analysis and report preparation.
• Professional certifications related to aquatic biology or environmental science.
