Applied Scientist- Intern, StreetEasy

The Data Product Team generates insights that help our customers navigate the complex New York City real estate market. We develop and maintain a diverse variety of production machine learning models, including property valuation, user propensity and segmentation, recommender systems, and experimentation.
About the role
We are seeking an inquisitive Applied Scientist intern who will help us develop creative solutions using machine learning to the broad business problems we are solving.
As an intern on you will get to:
Efficiently collect and wrangle data in sophisticated formats from diverse sources to derive new insights around our real estate marketplace
Develop and implement custom experiments with a focus on improving business-specific metrics
Partner with our applied scientists, engineers and product managers to implement end-to-end workflows on industry best-practice machine learning infrastructure
Communicate sophisticated machine learning analyses clearly to all audiences
This role has been categorized as a Remote position. Remote employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice which must be identified to the Company. Employees may live in any of the 50 US States, with limited exceptions. In certain cases, an employee in a remote-designated job may need to live in a specific region or time zone to support customers or clients as part of their role.
In Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada and New York City the standard base pay range for this role is $94,000.00 - $140,000.00 Annually. This base pay range is specific to Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada and New York City and may not be applicable to other locations.
Who you are
In the process of completing a Masters or PhD in Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, Economics, Real Estate or a related field
Anticipated graduation date between December 2023 and June 2024
Inclined to approach problems from a statistical perspective, with interest and comfort quantifying uncertainty.
Experience with, or a desire to learn, probabilistic programming methods and tools e.g PyMC, Stan, NumPyro, Tensorflow-probability would be beneficial.
You have proven data engineering skills as demonstrated by experience in SQL and preferably Python. Candidates with experience in R or another scientific computing language will also be considered.
Passionate about learning new business domains, solving problems and presenting to and communicating with non-technical audiences.
