App Backend Engineer, Core Services (Remote - Canada)

Our team is part of the Engineering Effectiveness organization, which focuses on improving Lead Time, Deployment Frequency, Time to Restore and Reduced Failures. Our work compromises maintaining shared libraries and tooling as well as improving the experience of developing with Python for hundreds Yelp engineers.
As a backend engineer you’ll work closely with other engineers to develop and maintain our Python platform, support and improve developer experience for Python developers and facilitate running and testing of Python services libraries and system packages.

Where you come in:
• Maintain our build and test tools for Python (e.g. pytest, poetry, virtualenv).
• Maintain our internal general purpose Python service infrastructure libraries used by other developers at Yelp to build new features.
• Maintain tools to enrich and streamline the Python developer experience.
• Able to iterate quickly using Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment principles.
• Give back by mentoring other engineers and sharing the skills you learn.
• Collaborate with team members and engineers across the company to improve developer experience.
What it takes to succeed:
• Ideally 3+ years of relevant industry experience.
• Experience with build and deployment ecosystems for Python
• Relevant experience in at least one server-side programming language.
• You’re excited about the challenges of scalability, reliability, and performance.
