Sabin staff, management and the Board of Trustees are committed to ensuring that fairness, integrity, and opportunity remain at the core of how we operate.Position Summary: The Senior Manager, Applied Epidemiology, is an enthusiastic and flexible public health professional who manages and implements public health research with internal teams and external partners. The Senior Manager has a strong epidemiological background and is able to manage and design epidemiological and vaccine studies, including vaccine effectiveness and impact evaluations and disease surveillance projects. The position requires exceptional analytical and data management skills, with the ability to analyze complex datasets and translate data into meaningful insights for policy and practice. The Senior Manager will also develop relationships with partners to implement projects and collaborate across disciplines to strengthen the use of evidence in decision-making.The successful candidate will play a key role on a dynamic team. Responsibilities will include project management; supporting the development of grant proposals, protocols, and project implementation plans; designing and implementing research protocols; leading and conducting advanced data analyses; contributing to the writing of scientific manuscripts; and communicating results. The Senior Manager will contribute significantly to the management of a cholera project, including a clinical trial of oral cholera vaccine dosing intervals, as well as other responsibilities and projects within the portfolio. In this role, the Senior Manager ensures Good Clinical Practice and protocol compliance through site monitoring and data quality control activities and is responsible for regular reporting to the funder.Responsibilities: Project Management Provide project oversight, problem-solving, and coordination of study-related activitiesDevelop and revise study protocols, standard operating procedures, and data collection tools, as neededLead regular calls with project staff, including principal investigatorsManage communications with funder, data and safety monitoring board, external partnersOversee and conduct site monitoring visits to ensure study objectives are met; prepare site monitoring reports, including recommendationsDevelop presentations and data summariesCoordinate dissemination of study results in peer-reviewed publications Data Monitoring, Management, and Analysis Experience with complex data management, including data cleaning, verification, and quality assurance for large, multi-country datasetsExperience with advanced statistical and mathematical modeling approaches, including geographic and spatial analysis and predictive disease modeling methods desiredCreate and maintain data monitoring scripts for study progress and qualityOversee the development and maintenance of study databases, with a strong preference for candidates who have experience developing databases themselves, ensuring data integrityDesign and implement statistical analysis plansConduct advanced statistical analyses; experience with R strongly preferredEncourage innovative approaches to data analysis and visualization to communicate results effectivelyIntegrate analytical findings into reports and visualizations that inform programmatic and policy decisionsPolicy Translation and AdvocacyTranslate research findings into policy-relevant recommendations and actionsSupport evidence-to-policy initiatives and contribute to data-driven advocacy effortsEngage with key stakeholders (e.g., WHO, Gavi, ministries of health, and other global health partners) to share insights and inform decision-makingContribute to policy briefs, presentations, and other communication materials that highlight evidence-based recommendationsGrants/Contracts Management Contribute significantly to writing grant proposals and concept notes, including literature review and study design components Lead annual progress and financial reporting on grant outcomes and milestones Support management of sub-contracting and partners budgetsPrepare activity summaries for funderOther related duties, as assigned
Requirements
Master’s degree in public health, Epidemiology, Statistics, or other health-related field; doctorate preferred9+ years of relevant experience, preferably in the field of epidemiology, public health research, or vaccine studiesStrong quantitative and analytical skills, including advanced statistical methods and modeling, ideally using R (experience with other analytical tools a plus).Demonstrated ability to translate data and research findings into actionable insights for policy and program developmentProven experience in data management and analysis of large, multi-country datasets; experience with disease surveillance and clinical trials preferredExperience working with global health partners and stakeholders (e.g., WHO, Gavi, ministries of health, academic or implementing partners)Strong understanding of study design, vaccine trials, and impact/effectiveness evaluationsExcellent communication and writing skills, including experience preparing policy briefs, data-driven reports, and scientific manuscriptsStrong project management skills, including coordination of complex, multi-institutional or international projects. Capacity for budget oversight and basic financial managementHighly organized and detail-oriented, able to manage complex tasks and prioritize multiple demands in a fast-paced environmentCollaborative and culturally sensitive, with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively across diverse teams and geographies Superior service orientation, with demonstrated professionalism and commitment to high-quality workAbility to travel domestically and internationally up to 15%Other: • Subject to a criminal background investigation • Request for three professional references • Verification of education/degrees Sabin’s philosophy is to ensure fair, unbiased, equitable, competitive compensation and benefits. Using benchmarking and salary survey data, the starting annual salary for this position ranges from $103,000 - $118,000. The exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, training, certifications/degree. As a grant-funded organization, Sabin actively seeks funding for existing and new programs.
