Adjunct Faculty - Microbiology
The School of Professional Studies seeks an adjunct faculty member to deliver high quality learning experiences and education for students in the online, asynchronous, self-paced format beginning at various points throughout the year. Instructors will deliver a pre-developed course, adding their subject matter expertise and real-world examples to developed content. Instructors will play an important role in the continuous improvement and overall success of the course.
The selected candidate will have responsibilities teaching Microbiology lecture and lab courses to self-paced, online, part-time learners. Subject matter may include an introduction to microbial principles designed to give a functional understanding of microorganisms, their role in disease and the environment, and our defenses against infections. The laboratory covers the principles of microscopy, aseptic techniques, and microbial cultivation and control.
Delivers didactic and laboratory instruction in an online, self-paced format.
Uses the University’s learning management system to post syllabus, assignments and other materials and to communicate with students
Facilitates student progress in an asynchronous environment by providing timely, individualized feedback on assessments and learning activities.
Advises and assists students through office hours or scheduled appointments, by videoconference, phone or email, and through other University-approved mechanisms
Provides service including student mentoring, ongoing course development, and assessment
Responds to student emails and Blackboard messages within 2 business days
Monitors student engagement and proactively reaches out to learners who are inactive or falling behind to support course completion.
Identifies and escalates student concerns, such as academic challenges, engagement issues, or policy-related questions, to School of Professional Studies staff to support timely resolution.
Maintains a strong online presence through consistent communication, announcements, and availability within the learning management system.
Grades assignments, quizzes, and exams within established turnaround times to support student momentum in a self‑paced format.
Participates in required faculty meetings and training sessions related to online teaching and educational technology within the School of Professional Studies
Submits final grades in a timely manner in accordance with School of Professional Studies policies
