Accounting Manager – Remote (US & Canada)

Metabase’s BizOps & Finance team is looking to add to our team with a high-performer who can manage our accounting, external audit, tax and payments. Our bookkeeping and tax accounting are outsourced, so this will require managing and overseeing external accounting firms. Longer-term we may bring some of these functions in-house. Alongside that you will design and build-out our internal systems, processes and reporting. The role will offer significant exposure to the financial management of a rapidly growing company, and the opportunity to own and grow our accounting functions. We are a small team, so you should be prepared to roll up your sleeves and get stuck in where you are needed. Responsibilities • Working with our external financial accountants, managing the month-end-close process • Project-managing and liaising with our external financial auditors • Working with our tax accountants, providing ad-hoc analysis in support of tax submissions and making sure things stay on-track • Building-out internal reporting • Designing and implementing financial systems and processes to improve our efficiency • Owning our payments processes, and helping team members with purchases • Managing our insurance needs • Getting stuck in where needed About You • Rock-solid quantitative skills: you produce error-free analysis and reports, and can diagnose and solve complex issues in our bookkeeping • Strong organizational / project-management skills • CPA with strong knowledge of GAAP • Roughly 3-5 years experience, preferably in a startup, high-growth company, or public accounting firm • Strong quantitative undergraduate degree • Based in the US or Canada • Low-ego attitude: no job should be too small or too large • Nice-to-have: experience with tax compliance and working with external auditors • Nice-to-have: familiarity with QBO • Nice-to-have: some knowledge of SQL and / or a scripting language to help automate things (e.g. python, javascript, VBA) We’re a global team (50% outside the US), fully distributed (from Thailand to California), who get things done asynchronously, with plenty of uninterrupted time, supporting each other to do the best work of our careers.
