We are seeking a Contract Accounting Lead to oversee our accounting operations and lead a small, dedicated finance team. This is a fully remote position, available to professionals working within EST or CST time zones.
Position Summary:
The Accounting Lead will report to the Controller and supervise a team of accountants. This role is responsible for overseeing daily accounting operations, leading month-end close, managing cash and payroll functions, and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of all financial reporting. Roles and Responsibilities:
• Supervise and support two staff accountants
• Oversee daily operations of the accounting department
• Monitor and ensure accuracy of all accounting transactions, journal entries, and reconciliations
• Manage cash flow and ensure timely payroll processing
• Close the books monthly in an accurate and timely manner
• Prepare revenue projections, expenditure forecasts, and financial analysis
• Reconcile balance sheet and income statement accounts
• Lead the preparation and coordination of annual audit and regulatory filings
• Maintain compliance with GAAP, internal policies, and applicable regulations
• Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities
• Recommend and implement improvements to financial processes and internal controls
• Obtain continuing education on relevant accounting standards and software
• Collaborate cross-functionally with leadership to deliver financial insights
Required Experience & Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (required)
• CPA or Master’s degree (preferred)
• Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience
• At least 2 years of supervisory experience
• Strong working knowledge of GAAP
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and QuickBooks Online (or similar platforms)
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial information clearly
• High degree of discretion, independent judgment, and decision-making ability
• Self-motivated with a track record of driving process improvements
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment and meet tight deadlines
• Experience in healthcare or behavioral health is a plus
Work Environment:
• Fully remote role (contract-based)
• Work is performed in an indoor, digital setting
• Regular interaction with team members via email, phone, and video platforms
• Must be available during standard business hours in EST or CST
