Academic Copy Editor for Edited Volume
About the Project: The Center on Modernity in Transition (COMIT) is launching an innovative academic publishing house, Pivot Press, focused on collaborative scholarship. We need an experienced copy editor for our first publication: an interdisciplinary edited volume exploring rural development and futures. This is an opportunity to help launch an innovative academic press focused on building intellectual community through collaborative scholarship. Additional volumes planned for future collaboration. Project Details: - 1 edited volume (est. 100,000 words) - Mix of traditional academic chapters, interview transcripts, and essays - Timeline: 3-6 months from manuscript to publication What We're Looking For: - Proven experience copy editing academic books (university press experience preferred) - Strong familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style - Experience developing house style guides for academic publishers - Familiarity with interdisciplinary scholarship - Ability to maintain consistency across diverse content formats - Knowledge of book production processes beyond text editing preferred but not required (layout, formatting, production workflows) Scope of Work: - Copy editing and proofreading - Assistance with developing Pivot Press style guide - Guidance on production timeline and workflows - Collaboration with authors throughout development process - Ensuring coherence across different chapter formats To Apply: Please share: - Your experience with academic publishing - Examples of books you've copy edited - Availability for 3-6 month project starting October, 2025 - Your rate Apply tot his job
