GEO Next Generation Academy (K-12) – Indianapolis is a part of a network of high-quality charter schools managed by the GEO Foundation. It joins 21st Century Charter at Gary, Gary Middle College East and Gary Middle College West in delivering a high-quality learning experience to parents and students in Indiana. GEO Next Generation High School is a tuition-free, public charter school that will begin with 9th grade and add a grade each year over the subsequent three years. Our teachers cultivate critical thinking skills students need to understand how the world works around them. Our dedicated faculty are committed to providing an outstanding education for students each day as they transition from middle school to high school and COLLEGE. Through our partnership with the local community college, our students will be able to take dual credit courses with the opportunity to earn college credit at no cost to the student. Our curriculum and our teaching methods are designed using Core Knowledge, Teach Like a Champion and blended learning model.

This is a full time 10-month position.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced 6th Grade Teacher to join our team. As a 6th Grade Teacher, you will be responsible for creating a positive and engaging learning environment for your students. You will be responsible for teaching a variety of subjects, including math, science, social studies, and language arts.

Responsibilities:

The Middle School Teacher is required to perform the following duties:
• Develop and implement lesson plans that align with state standards and meet the needs of all students
• Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes learning and growth
• Use a variety of teaching strategies and techniques to engage students and promote critical thinking
• Assess student progress toward mastery of standards and provide feedback to students and parents/guardians
• Monitor student progress by collecting and tracking data, providing regular feedback, performing regular assessments
• Collaborate with other teachers and staff to create a cohesive and effective learning community
• Attend professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in education
• Work with the Special Education department to serve special needs students in the classroom
• Attend all required staff meetings and attend designated school functions outside of school hours
• Enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom you are responsible
• Other duties as deemed appropriate by the Administrator

Requirements:

Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in education with at least 24 hours in a content area
• Valid Indiana Initial Practitioner, Professional Educator, Charter School license OR able to get an Emergency Permit
• Experience teaching 6th grade or similar age group
• Strong knowledge of subject matter and state standards
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with other teachers and staff
• Passion for teaching and a commitment to student success
