WELDER OR WELDER SENIOR (UTILITY MAINTENANCE)

There is one vacancy in the Utility Maintenance Division, which will be filled in any combination of the following job categories: Welder or Welder Sr.

WELDER POSITION:

We are currently seeking:

A welder to join our team and, under general supervision, weld metal components together to fabricate parts and repair vehicles, equipment and heavy equipment.

Your responsibilities will include:
Ā• Welding fabricate parts, and repairing vehicles, equipment, and heavy equipment in accordance with standard procedures, safety regulations, and City policy.
Ā• Working independently and making appropriate decisions based on work experience.
Ā• Examining materials to be repaired to determine the strength and heating properties of parent metals and alloys; studies blueprints and sketches to determine needed repairs and construction standards.
Ā• Using welding equipment to join metal pieces and burn or cut through metal.
Ā• Maintaining work area and equipment; inspecting and cleaning equipment and facility.
Ā• Performing maintenance and repairs within scope of authority, and in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; notifying supervisors of repair problems beyond the scope of authority.
Ā• Performing general maintenance, construction, and repair tasks as directed.
Ā• Ensuring that safety rules and regulations are followed; utilizing proper safety precautions in all work performed; reporting safety hazards, equipment problems, and emergency situations.
Ā• Ensuring that hazardous materials are cleaned up and stored according to City policy and procedures; responds to emergencies as needed.
Ā• Hours: Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, rotating on call position that may include holidays or weekends.
Ā• Regular and timely attendance is required.

Requirements and Skills:
Ā• Operating and maintaining tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner.

Ā• Following and maintaining safety standards.
Ā• Closely following verbal and written instructions and procedures.
Ā• Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

High School diploma or equivalent; and welding vocational school or apprenticeship training; and two year's welding experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Licenses or Certifications:
Ā• Must possess a valid Texas Driver License with a good driving record.
Ā• Applicants with an out-of-state driver license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure.
Ā• Must obtain a class B - CDL within six months of hire.
Ā• Must obtain Class D - Water/ Wastewater operator license from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality within one year.

WELDER SR. POSITION:

We are currently seeking:

A welder senior to join our team and, under general supervision, evaluate welding requests, determine proper techniques, and weld metal components together to fabricate parts and repair vehicles, equipment and heavy equipment.

Your responsibilities will include:
Ā• Evaluating welding requests, determining proper techniques, and repairing vehicles, equipment and heavy equipment in accordance with standard procedures, safety regulations and City policy; advising supervisor if requested welding procedures are ineffective or dangerous.
Ā• Working independently, and making appropriate decisions based on work experience.
Ā• Reviewing work orders, inspecting equipment to be repaired, assembling and ordering materials and equipment, and planning work to be performed.
Ā• Training and coordinating work of welding work crew, assigning specific tasks to crew members, and inspecting completed work to ensure compliance to safety and quality standards.
Ā• Examining materials to be repaired to determine the strength and heating properties of parent metals and alloys; studying blueprints and sketches to determine needed repairs and construction standards.
Ā• Using welding equipment to join metal pieces and burn or cut through metal.

High School diploma or equivalent; and welding vocational school or apprenticeship training; and five year's welding experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Licenses or Certifications:
Ā• A Texas Driver License with a good driving record is required. Must obtain Class B - CDL within six months of hire.

Physical Demands / Work Environment:
Ā• Work is performed indoors and outdoors.
Ā• Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.
Ā• Ability to work around extreme noise and mechanical, electrical, and other conditions that may be adverse.
Ā• Required to perform moderate physical work, and lift and carry up to 100 pounds.
