Job Description
The Ashoka Sport for Changemaking Team leverages a collective 20+ years of experience using sport as a platform to create societal change. Our expertise draws across diverse experiences as practitioners, researchers, and innovators who understand how sport intersects across industries and impact areas. These experiences have allowed us to connect with and learn from social entrepreneurs, policymakers, and industry experts to explore the opportunities and obstacles to foster a sports ecosystem where every person is a powerful contributor for the good of all.
This Project: Sector-Wide Survey & Insights Report â Reimagining Sport for Good Funding. Ashokaâs Sport for Changemaking team is seeking a highly analytical, independent, and collaborative volunteer to lead and execute a landmark sector-wide research effort as part of our Reimagining Sport for Good Funding initiative. Our volunteer will oversee the full lifecycle of the SectorâWide Survey and Insights Report, one of the initiativeâs core pillars. The project aims to map current funding flows, identify promising practices, uncover critical gaps, and elevate the voices of funders, practitioners, and community leaders driving systemic innovation in sport. You will work closely with the Sport for Changemaking team to design research tools, engage stakeholders, analyze data, and produce a highâquality report that will guide sector-wide strategy, policy, and collaboration. As our volunteer, you will contribute to:
Estimated hours required per week: 6 to 10 hours per week
The estimated duration of the project is: 6-12 months

- Designing and deploying a comprehensive survey to funders, practitioners, coalitions, and other sportâforâgood stakeholders.
- Conducting desk research and interviews to complement survey data and incorporate global perspectives.
- Mapping funding flows and cataloging emerging systemic funding practices across the sector.
- Identifying root causes, gaps, and leverage points within the sport-for-good funding ecosystem.
- Writing and producing a sectorâdefining insights report that includes findings, analysis, case studies, and actionable recommendations for funders, policymakers, and industry bodies.
- Coâfacilitating roundtable discussions with stakeholders to refine findings and spark collective reflection.
- Presenting learnings in formats that can inform the broader Reimagining Sport for Good Funding initiative.
- Research design (survey architecture, interview guides, sampling).
- Quantitative and qualitative analysis of survey data.
- Synthesis of insights from interviews, desk research, and Ashoka knowledge libraries.
- Drafting clear, compelling written analysis and visual data presentations.
- Collaborating with Ashoka teams to ensure accuracy, thought leadership alignment, and practical relevance.
- Supporting dissemination planning, including potential presentations or webinars.

We are seeking a volunteer with strong analytical, research, and communication capabilities. Ideal candidates will demonstrate:
- Experience in research design, impact evaluation, or sector/system mapping.
- Strong analytical and synthesis skills; ability to interpret complex data and extract insights.
- Excellent written communication skills, especially in producing reports or longâform analysis.
- Familiarity with the sport for good, physical activity, youth development, or philanthropic sectors a plus.
- Ability to work independently and manage a multiâstep project from start to finish.
- Comfortable engaging with funders, practitioners, and sector leaders through interviews or roundtables.
- Proficiency with data tools (Excel, SPSS, R, or similar) a plus, though not required.
- Strong attention to detail and comfort navigating ambiguity.
- Proficiency in English; additional languages (Spanish, French, Portuguese) a plus.
