What You'll Do

Western Alliance Bank is seeking an experienced portfolio manager and underwriter to join one of the largest hotel lending teams in the United States. With a portfolio of over $4 billion in hotel assets, this fast-paced environment will expose you a variety of hotel types and major hotel ownership groups across the country. The ideal candidate will thrive in a task-oriented workflow and will possess strong commercial real estate underwriting skills and extensive knowledge of the hospitality industry, while benefiting from team leadership with decades of experience in hotel underwriting. The role includes investigating the viability of new deals, underwriting new loans (both existing assets and new construction), and will manage a portfolio of hotels in major United States markets. You will have the opportunity to interact directly with investors, owners, and operators. This position is also expected to help train, mentor, and onboard Credit Analysts, allowing you to share your expertise with the team. The ability to give and receive feedback is essential to our team members as we learn through doing. Resources are available for professional development and group learning is encouraged.

Underwriting
• Collaborate with relationship managers and platform leaders to formulate loan structures
• Determine repayment ability using historical performance, borrower projections, market research, appraisals, and other third-party reports
• Interact with borrowers, legal counsel, internal partners, and external vendors throughout underwriting process
• Complete loan approval memos in accordance with underwriting guidelines
• Perform site visits to assess subject collateral and market dynamics
• Negotiate loan documentation and assist in closing process
• Train and develop teammates

Portfolio Management
• Ensure financial reporting requirements are met and calculate covenant compliance
• Process loan modifications, waivers, and consents
• Complete quarterly review memos by analyzing micro and macroeconomic trends
• Consistent interaction with borrower and relationship manager to meet client needs
• Collaborate with teammates to share best practices

What You'll Need
• Bachelor's Degree from a 4-year college or university degree, preferably in Finance or Accounting
• Minimum 5 years hotel or commercial real estate underwriting experience
• Exceptional credit knowledge, underwriting, and Excel skills
• Advanced knowledge and training in financial statement and tax return analysis
• Outstanding presentation, verbal, and written communication skills
• Ability to work well with others in a collaborative environment
• Excellent time management and multi-tasking skills
• Ability to travel 2-3 days per month

Compensation: Salary range for new hires is generally $131,000.00 - $161,083.00 for Chicago, IL. Salary range for new hires is generally $139,000.00 - $171,821.00 for New York, NY. Salary amount is determined by specific job location. In addition, the role may be eligible for annual bonus/incentives earned and restricted stock.
