Veterinary Technician - Join Our Compassionate Team and Make a Difference in Animal Lives
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Veterinary Technician to join our team at Farm Sanctuary, a leading organization in animal welfare and advocacy. As a key member of our Animal Care team, you will work closely with our Sanctuary Veterinarian and other stakeholders to provide exceptional care and support to our animal residents. In this role, you will be responsible for coordinating and managing vaccine and health check schedules, annual/biannual treatments, vet visits, and other healthcare-related activities. You will also provide oversight and leadership to our Wellness team, collaborate with our Research & Animal Welfare team to implement goal-oriented animal welfare programs, and work closely with our Animal Care team to provide daily, goal-oriented enrichment and positive training to our animal residents.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform veterinary technician responsibilities, including administering medications, collecting diagnostic samples, and assisting with or performing euthanasia under the direction of the veterinarian
Handle critical resident cases using sound judgment to stabilize animals, at times in the absence of a clinician
Maintain healthcare-related schedules, create vet visit lists, and disseminate information to relevant stakeholders
Collaborate with the Sanctuary Veterinarian and other teams to implement enrichment and animal learning opportunities programs
Act as a Farm Sanctuary Animal Care representative for tours, media, events, and other activities
Support the Animal Care Intern Program and work with interns onsite in daily tasks
Requirements:
New York State Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) Certification required
Nice-to-Haves:
Ideally two years of experience at an Animal Sanctuary or animal-care related organization
Excellent organizational and leadership skills
Effective communication and interpersonal skills
Understanding of animal welfare and willingness to explore innovative animal care practices
Resourcefulness and ability to work independently
