UX UI Product Designer
Project Overview
Northwoods Consulting Partners (a Banyan Software company) is seeking a contract Product Designer (UX/UI) to help improve the user experience and interface design of our SaaS platforms used by state and local Health and Human Services agencies across the United States.
Our software supports caseworkers who manage complex workflows and critical services for communities. We are looking for a designer who can help simplify complex workflows, improve usability, and elevate the overall product experience.
This role requires someone who can think strategically about user experience while also producing high-quality UI designs that are ready for development.
Scope of Work
The Product Designer will support UX and UI design for our key platforms, including Traverse and Case Aide Services. The work will focus on improving product usability, workflow clarity, and visual consistency across the platform.
Responsibilities include:
- Evaluating the current user experience and identifying usability gaps or workflow inefficiencies
- Translating product goals, customer feedback, and business needs into clear UX solutions
- Creating wireframes, workflows, and interactive prototypes
- Designing polished UI screens and flows using Figma
- Creating reusable design components and patterns to support consistency and scalability
- Collaborating closely with Product Managers, Engineers, and Marketing to align on design direction and implementation
- Preparing design assets and documentation for engineering handoff
- Reviewing implementation with engineering teams to ensure designs are implemented correctly
Type of Work
This role includes both strategic UX thinking and hands-on design execution. The ideal candidate can move between defining experience direction and delivering detailed design work.
You should be comfortable:
- Designing for complex SaaS or workflow-driven applications
- Working in collaborative product teams
- Navigating evolving requirements and product priorities
- Communicating design decisions clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders
Tools and Collaboration
Our team primarily works with:
- Figma for design, wireframes, and prototypes
- Jira or similar Agile tools for product and development workflows
- Standard collaboration tools such as Teams or Slack
- Experience working closely with engineering teams during design handoff and implementation is important.
Engagement Details
Contract position
Approximately 20 hours per week, with the potential to increase to 40 hours depending on project needs
Fully remote
Preference for designers with experience in SaaS platforms, enterprise software, or workflow-heavy applications
Ideal Experience
We are looking for someone who:
- Has 5+ years of UX/UI or product design experience
- Has worked on SaaS or enterprise software products
- Has strong skills in UX thinking, interaction design, and visual design
- Can translate complex processes into simple and intuitive user experiences
- Works well in cross-functional teams with product, engineering, and marketing
- Demonstrates strong attention to detail and design quality
Nice to Have
- Experience designing for government, public sector, or regulated industries
- Experience supporting product branding or marketing-related design work
