Position Description

The Department of Health, Exercise Science and Recreation Management (HESRM) at the University of Mississippi is seeking applications for a nine-month, non-tenure track position as Instructional Assistant Professor in Public Health. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent in public health or closely related field. Preference will be given to applicants who hold a master's degree in public health or a related field (e.g., MPH, MHA, MHS) and who earned their graduate degrees in schools or programs accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH). Preference will be given to applicants with experience teaching in person and online. The position may begin as early as January 2024.

The candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate-level public health courses in community health, work with public health faculty on administration of the public health program, and assist with CEPH accreditation, student recruitment, retention, and graduation. Other duties may include growing partnerships in the field of public health, conducting independent and collaborative research, and serving on academic committees. The School of Applied Sciences, located on the University of Mississippi campus in Oxford, MS ( ), is an inclusive home to approximately 150 faculty and staff, over 2,600 students, five academic departments, two centers, and an institute. The School of Applied Sciences currently serves nine undergraduate, ten master's, and four doctoral programs ( ).

HESRM ( ) is home to eighteen faculty, four staff members, and approximately 900 students from around the world. HESRM currently offers three undergraduate programs (Public Health, Sport and Recreation Administration, and Exercise Science), four master's degree programs (MPH, Sport Analytics, Sport and Recreation Administration, and Exercise Science), and a Ph.D. program in Health and Kinesiology with four emphasis areas (Public Health, Sport Analytics, Sport and Recreation Administration, and Exercise Science).
