Position Description

The Department of Biology at the University of Mississippi (UM) is seeking multiple Instructional Assistant Professors (IAP) or Instructors who will be responsible for teaching general education biology courses to non-science majors within a team of instructional faculty. Beginning in August 2024, courses will be taught in a blended lecture-lab format in technology-enabled active learning (TEAL) classrooms designed for 90 students in the Jim and Thomas Duff Center for Science and Technology Innovation, a new STEM teaching facility. These faculty will also participate in the academic advising of undergraduate biology majors, participate in recruiting events, and provide departmental faculty service. This is a nine-month academic year, non-tenure track appointment, with promotion possibilities. IAP/Instructor contracts are subject to renewal on an annual basis.

UM's Department of Biology is a broad-based department that consists of 22 tenure-track and 13 instructional faculty, who educate over 800 undergraduate biology majors and 53 graduate students (PhD and MS) ( ). Construction of a new $175M STEM education facility on campus is nearing completion and will foster interdisciplinary opportunities to fulfill our commitment to inclusive excellence in biology education. Job Responsibilities:


The successful candidate will be responsible for instruction of non-majors courses and will be expected to advise undergraduate biology majors, participate in recruiting events, and provide departmental faculty service.
Minimum Qualifications


Applicants must have either a Ph.D. (preferred, for Instructional Assistant Professor) or an M.S. degree (for Instructor) in Biology or a related field, experience teaching biology courses for non-majors and demonstrate a commitment to pedagogical innovation and inclusivity in the classroom.
