This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College We are seeking our next English Faculty Instructor who will be all-in on our mission and who will have teaching responsibilities that include time spent in the classroom, laboratory, tech-supported, or online courses and in immediate preparation for respective courses, maintaining and improving competence in subjects being taught.

Requirements

EDUCATION

Required: Master's Degree in English or a Master's Degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in any combination of the qualifying fields.

Qualifying Fields: Creative Writing, English Grammar, Linguistics, Classics, Technical Writing, Applied Linguistics, Literature, Rhetoric and Composition, Comparative Literature, or Technical Communication.
Preferred: Ph.D. in English or one of the qualifying fields.

EXPERIENCE

Preferred: Previous post-secondary teaching experience.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Teach courses in English, including literature, and writing.
Mentor and advise students to help them succeed academically and personally.
Evaluate and grade student work, providing feedback that is constructive, specific, and timely.
Maintain records such as class schedules, grades, and attendance.
Plan, develop and present organized classroom and online instruction and learning opportunities for students in accordance with approved course outlines and learning outcomes.
Develop curriculum, prepare syllabus, and align course content with the catalog description.
Perform teaching activities, including classroom/online instruction, directing projects, and assisting with student coursework, research, and internships.
Participate in faculty development programs each semester and recruitment activities.
Conduct ongoing assessment of students? growth and progress to prepare students.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Good oral and written command of the English language and grammar is required.
Must understand and apply learner-centered and high impact instructional methods.
Skills in computer operation, multimedia classroom instructional software, and be willing to learn new computer software.
Ability to work under stress, work independently and as a team member, and deal with students in a professional manner.
Ability to teach day and/or evening courses as required.
Ability to teach off-campus, dual credit, online, and tech supported courses as required.
Ability to educate themselves regarding college policies.
Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism at all times, especially when dealing with resistance or hostility, and to provide an exemplary level of customer service to all internal, external customers, vendors, community leaders, etc.

Faculty Salary: , salary is determined by the Faculty Placement Schedule and the Faculty Salary Questionnaire.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings, and requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and/or maneuver office supplies as needed.

Working Conditions: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events if necessary.)

Work Environment: This position operates in a professional office environment, routinely uses standard office equipment (i.e. computers, phones, copy and fax machines, filing cabinets) and is in a high traffic area with continual interruptions. Software commonly used includes Microsoft Office, Colleague, and various other educational applications. Work may also be performed outside of the office and with little to no supervision.
