Underwriter I, Commercial Marine - Coast Underwriters Limited

Intact Financial Corporation is seeking an Underwriter I to join their Coast Underwriters team. This role involves analyzing insurance requests, managing policy transactions, and maintaining relationships with brokers to ensure sustainable growth in the commercial marine sector. Responsibilities Analyze requests for quotes, renewals and policy changes, and recommend solutions Accept, reject, endorse, renew or cancel policies following Coast's underwriting guidelines and procedures, applicable laws and regulations and subject to authority level as specified by underwriting manager Support brokers regarding underwriting and rating policies Focus on sustainable profitable growth Use effective communication and negotiating skills to maintain healthy relationships within and outside the company Participate in broker visits, industry functions and marketing events Respond to broker requests and concerns in a timely manner Rate and prepare quotes for new business and renewals Handle policy transactions including renewals, endorsements and cancellations Support team members within Coast Underwriters Limited as well as other divisions at Intact Maintain great relationships with brokers and travel for meetings as required Skills Minimum 1 year of Commercial Lines underwriting experience Strong customer service and time management skills Strong knowledge in Microsoft Office products Inquisitive, analytical and self-motivated individual with strong critical thinking skills Demonstrate initiative and ability to work under pressure and flexibility to change Team player possessing outstanding collaboration and communication skills Ability to develop and maintain excellent relationships with brokers Ability to make decisions in time sensitive situations, provide recommended course of action and take calculated risks Interested in and stay up to date on business trends or other developments impacting our industry No Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada Candidates with prior marine insurance industry experience will be prioritized CIP designation or working towards it Benefits Flexible work arrangements and a hybrid work model Possibility to purchase up to 5 extra days off per year Multiple benefits offered to support physical and mental wellbeing, including telemedicine, Wellness account and much more Share plan & other savings: up to 12% of salary or even more (ask how you could earn guaranteed income for life) Annual bonus target, based on the base salary, with a potential payout of up to double the target (subject to personal and company performance) Employee Share Purchase Plan (ESPP) – with Intact matching 50% of your net shares Pension offerings provide flexibility and long-term security for our employees beyond their careers Opportunity to receive guaranteed income for life via our defined benefit pension plan Company Overview BrokerLink is an insurance brokerage company that offers car, home, property, personal, and business insurance claims.
