About Us Chess.com is one of the largest gaming sites in the world and the #1 platform for playing, learning, and enjoying chess. We are a team of 600+ fully remote people in 60+ countries working hard to serve the global chess community. We are here to support 200M+ chess players worldwide with the best possible product, content, and tools to serve the community! We are a tech company. A gaming company. A content company. And we do it all with passion and commitment to the game. Above all we prize our mission-driven, flat, life-celebrating, no-corporate culture, and we look forward to meeting you and learning more about what you can bring to the team. About You The Translation Manager will lead and mentor a team of approximately ten in-house translators at Chess.com, driving the strategy and execution of all localized content efforts. This pivotal role involves setting translation priorities, optimizing translated content for SEO and AI compatibility, and researching and implementing cutting-edge translation tools and AI technologies to enhance team efficiency and output quality. The Manager will also serve as a key individual contributor, providing direct translation services in their primary language(s) and leveraging their deep familiarity with the nuanced terminology of chess to ensure the highest standards of linguistic and domain accuracy across all translated content. What you'll do • Supervise and mentor a team of approximately ten translators, conducting regular performance reviews, coordinating workloads, and fostering professional development. • Develop and implement a comprehensive translation strategy and set content priorities to align with Chess.com's global growth and content goals. • Directly contribute to the translation workflow in primary language(s), ensuring high-quality, linguistically accurate, and contextually appropriate localization, especially for content containing complex chess terminology. • Collaborate with SEO and engineering teams to optimize translated content for improved search engine performance and seamless integration with emerging AI platforms. • Establish and maintain rigorous quality assurance (QA) processes for all translated materials, ensuring consistency across languages and adherence to brand voice. Qualifications • Bachelor's degree in Translation, Linguistics, Communications, or a related field. • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a translation management or team lead role, ideally in a fast-paced digital content environment. • Demonstrated fluency in English and native or near-native fluency in at least one other language. • Deep and proven familiarity with the rules, concepts, and technical terminology of chess (e.g., openings, tactics, engine analysis). • Solid working knowledge of SEO principles as they apply to localized content and experience optimizing translations for search. • Expert-level proficiency with industry-standard CAT (Computer-Assisted Translation) tools and a strong interest in leveraging AI for localization. • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage complex projects simultaneously. About the Opportunity • This is a full-time opportunity • We are 100% remote (work from anywhere!) • We have a slight preference for EU candidates due to operational needs. --- Apply tot his job
