Trainee Multidisciplinary Advocate

Remote Full-time

At Rethink Mental Illness, we believe everyone deserves to have their rights respected, their voice heard, and their choices valued. If you’re passionate about empowering people and want to build a meaningful career in advocacy, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

About the Role
As a Trainee Multi‑Disciplinary Advocate, you’ll join our experienced Advocacy team in Camden & Islington and begin your journey toward becoming a qualified Independent Advocate.
You don’t need prior advocacy experience — just the drive to learn, compassion for others, and the willingness to complete the Level 4 Independent Advocacy Practice qualification (fully supported by us).
In this role, you will:

Work alongside and shadow our advocates as you learn the foundations of statutory and non‑statutory advocacy.
Support people to understand their rights, express their views and wishes, and participate in decisions about their care, treatment, and living arrangements.
Visit people in a wide range of settings including care homes, hospitals, secure units, supported living, and the community.
Develop confidence in both instructed and non‑instructed advocacy.
Manage your own caseload as you develop, with full support, supervision and protected study time.

You’ll be home‑based but working in the field across Camden & Islington — so the ability to travel locally is key.

Why this role matters
Advocacy can be life‑changing. You’ll be the person standing alongside individuals who may be finding it difficult to understand information, navigate services, or have their voices heard. Your work will empower people, support their rights, and help ensure their wishes are central to the decisions that affect their lives.

Training & Development
We’ll invest heavily in your development. You will:

Enrol in the Level 4 Independent Advocacy Practice qualification.
Gain skills in IMHA, IMCA, IHCA, DoLS, ICAA, Community Advocacy and more.
Receive regular 1:1 supervision, case discussions, shadowing and reflective practice.
Build strong working knowledge of legal frameworks such as the Mental Capacity Act and Mental Health Act.
Progress into a qualified Multi‑Disciplinary Advocate upon completion of your training.

About You
We’d love to hear from you if:

You’re passionate about people’s rights and committed to empowering others.
You have transferable skills, lived experience or professional experience that helps you connect with people from all backgrounds.
You communicate well — verbally, in writing and in a person‑centred way.
You’re IT‑confident and organised, with the ability to manage your own time.
You’re ready to learn, show initiative, and be part of a supportive team.
You can travel across Camden & Islington.

You don’t need to be an expert yet — just open, respectful, curious and driven to help people have a voice.

What We Offer

£3,000 London Allowance (pro rata).
35-hour full‑time working week.
Generous training and development support.
Home‑based working with travel across the boroughs.
Supportive team culture focused on learning, wellbeing and professional growth.

Ready to begin your career in advocacy?
If you want a role that genuinely makes a difference — one where every day you help ensure someone’s voice is heard — we’d love to receive your application.
Apply today and help us shape a better future for people affected by mental illness.
