Job description: Sierra7, Inc. is seeking a Technology / Systems Architect to support the USDA. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Production and Conservation (FPAC) offers production and conservation tools, financial assistance, and technical advice along with commodity, lending, and disaster programs for America's farmers, ranchers, and private foresters. This project supports the evaluation of potential technical solutions that will support new requirements over the next 5-10 years by outreach to FPAC stakeholders. The goal is a multi-year IT and investment strategy that will guide IT modernization. This approach leverages business relationship management, business architecture, enterprise architecture, data architecture, technology architecture, solution architecture, and business analysis disciplines. This is a Remote Position Position Responsibilities: Position activities will be based on the Enterprise Architecture Body of Knowledge (EABOK®) as well as The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF) Architecture Development Method (ADM) and the Federal Enterprise Architecture Framework (FEAF): • IT Modernization & Transformation - Identify and describe the key areas when current IT solutions or practices are significantly out of date, ineffective or in need of substantial transformation. Define and propose key modernization efforts that should be represented on IT roadmaps. This provides the catalog of major outstanding issue needs to be addressed. • IT Standards & Guiding Principles - Develop, establish, publish, and steward official standards controlling critical aspects of IT solutions, and important best practices for other meaningful facets. Ensure alignment with Departmental standards and guidance. Establish the process for collaborative standards definition and management. • Technology & Application Lifecycle Management - Define and govern approved lifecycle phases attached to applications and technologies that will signal needed changes and guide future use and investment. Providing the process for consensus (covers new and current technologies). Track key aspects of technologies and application useful making lifecycle decision (for example, cloud-enablement or mobile support). • Solution Architecture Development - Architect effective IT solutions that meet business needs while following enterprise guidance and leveraging key common capabilities to improve quality and simplify operational support. • Solution Architecture Review & Guidance - Provide consultation, review and guidance on effective solution architectures. This may include architecture reviews at key Stage Gates and standards exception enforcement. • Target State & Transition State Architecture - Create future-oriented views that describe how selected aspects of the enterprise will be structured and operate after a desired set of changes are accomplished.
