Technical Writer - Mechanical & Electronic (LED) Technologies (Freelance)
We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Writer with a keen ability to translate complex technologies into clear, accurate, and legally sound documentation. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical and electronic (LED) systems, and a demonstrated capacity to craft content suitable for patents and technical documentation. Experience with software systems is considered a strong asset.
ā¢ This is a project-based freelance / independent contractor agreement
Key Responsibilities:
ā¢ Draft, edit, and structure technical documents that describe complex mechanical and electronic (LED) technologies including hardware, systems and procedures in a clear and accurate manner.
ā¢ Collaborate with legal team and engineers to gather technical information and translate it into documentation that may support patent filings or compliance processes.
ā¢ Proof and edit technical material written by others (lawyers, engineers, etc.) for clarity, conciseness, grammar, and consistent formatting.
ā¢ Prepare engineering diagrams, charts, and illustrations to complement written documentation.
ā¢ Maintain documentation databases and versioning systems where required.
ā¢ May support occasional software-related documentation tasks.
ā¢ Organize technical content into structured formats suitable for internal stakeholders, legal teams, or external collaborators.
Requirements:
ā¢ Bachelor's degree required (preferably in a technology-related field).
ā¢ 3ā5 years of experience in technical writing or a similar role, preferably in a mechanical or electronics-focused environment.
ā¢ Demonstrated experience creating technical content for patents or legal documentation is highly desirable.
ā¢ Excellent written communication skills and the ability to understand and articulate complex systems.
ā¢ Strong organizational and project management skills.
ā¢ Familiarity with documentation tools (e.g., MS Office, Adobe Acrobat).
ā¢ Experience with software documentation is an asset but not required.
Preferred Experience:
ā¢ Exposure to LED technologies, embedded systems, or hardware components.
ā¢ Experience collaborating with R&D teams and IP professionals.
Contractual terms, Compensation and Duration:
This is a project-based freelance / independent contractor agreement applicable in the United States (1099) and Canada (Independent Contractor).
Compensation is based on experience and is set between US$400 and US$500 per day.
This position is open to remote candidates based in the USA or in Canada.
Duration, scope and duration details to be determined with specific project needs.
