About the position

The Elementary Band Teacher is responsible for providing students with engaging learning activities and experiences in music education, specifically in band. The role aims to foster students' intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth while enabling them to develop competencies and skills necessary for success in society. The teacher will implement lesson plans, assess student learning, and create a conducive classroom environment.

Responsibilities
Ā• Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the district's curriculum requirements.

Ā• Prepare lessons that accommodate different student learning styles.

Ā• Present subject matter according to Texas Education Agency guidelines and district policies.
,
Ā• Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies and materials that reflect understanding of students' needs.

Ā• Assess student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
,
Ā• Collaborate with special education teachers to modify curricula for special education students as per IEP guidelines.
,
Ā• Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aides and volunteers.

Ā• Utilize technology to enhance the teaching and learning process.
,
Ā• Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.

Ā• Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and sponsor approved outside activities.

Ā• Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students' development.

Ā• Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.

Ā• Establish and maintain open lines of communication with parents, students, and colleagues.

Ā• Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.

Requirements
Ā• Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college.

Ā• Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for the subject/level assigned.
,
Ā• Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned.
,
Ā• At least one year of student teaching or approved internship experience.
,
Ā• Knowledge of core academic subjects and curriculum instruction.
,
Ā• Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior effectively.
,
Ā• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves
Ā• Fluency in a foreign language for LOTE teachers.

Ā• Current automated external defibrillator (AED) certificate for Physical Education teachers.
