Position Title: Contract Tax Preparer
Employment Type: Independent Contractor (1099)
Reports To: Managing Partner
Compensation: $40-$50/hour depending on experience
Work Hours: Flexible, estimated 10–20 hours/week, varies by season
Location: Fully Remote
Position Summary
We are seeking experienced and reliable tax preparers to support our growing client base on a contract basis. As a Contract Tax Preparer, you will handle tax preparation, client accounting, and other assigned projects. You will work closely with the administrative assistant to track time spent on each engagement and will receive all work for review by the managing partner. This role is ideal for professionals seeking flexible hours and remote work while contributing to a collaborative, high-integrity team.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Preparation & Filing
• Prepare federal and state income tax returns for individuals and small businesses.
• Ensure all work product is accurate, timely, and compliant with IRS and state regulations.
Client Work & Communication
• Review client-provided documents and communicate additional information as needed to the Managing Partner.
• Maintain a high standard of accuracy and clarity in deliverables.
· Compliance, Review & Collaboration
• Submit completed work to the managing partner for review and feedback.
• Work with the administrative assistant to track and report time spent per project.
• Identify any compliance issues and propose solutions to Managing Partner.
• Maintain secure, organized workpapers for all completed engagements.
Workflow & Process Improvement
• Participate in workflow discussions and virtual check-ins as needed.
• Offer input on refining processes, templates, or client experience tools.
• Track billable hours and submit timesheets weekly.
Qualifications
• Active CPA license in good standing preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in tax preparation
• Strong working knowledge of federal and state tax laws
• Proficiency in tax software such as Drake, Lacerte, UltraTax, or similar
• Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage the workflow of multiple clients.
• Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills
• Professional and clear communication style.
• Experience collaborating with administrative staff is a plus.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $30.00 - $50.00 per hour
Expected hours: 15 – 20 per week
