SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR - VIDEO SURVEILLANCE
Milwaukee Public Schools is responsible for providing a safe and secure environment through effective video surveillance systems. The Systems Administrator will manage the installation, configuration, and maintenance of these systems while ensuring compliance with specifications and optimizing performance.ResponsibilitiesLead Site Surveys: Coordinate and lead surveys with contractors and school personnel to determine security needsDesign & Quoting: Provide equipment recommendations for cameras and servers. Review contractor quotes and site plans for accuracyOnsite Inspections: Verify that all installations meet MPS specifications, including painted conduit, patched walls, and proper cable service loopsVendor Liaison: Lead weekly project conference calls and manage the contractor's closeout documentationServer Administration: Configure Windows OS and Avigilon settings; ensure Analytics services are active and failover servers are properly assignedStorage Management: Verify that all cameras meet the recording mandates and adjust compression/frame rates to optimize storageAccess Control Integration: Manage integration with the Access Control Management system to define triggerable events including door controllers, card readers, and user permission groups to ensure seamless integration with the video platformNaming & Security: Enforce standard naming conventions and manage strict security profiles for users and device groupsEquipment Optimization: Regularly review system capacity for efficiency and performanceDocumentation: Update and maintain operational, configuration, or other procedural documentationProactive Monitoring: Review error logs and use PRTG/SNMP monitoring to identify malfunctioning components before they failHardware Repair: Troubleshoot system components and coordinate repairs; utilize warehouse stock for out-of-warranty replacementsDecommissioning: Manage the removal and organization of obsolete equipment (DVRs, NVRs, analog cables) and return reusable parts to stockParticipates in systems on-call rotationAttends and participates in staff and project meetingsCompletes other duties as assignedSkillsAssociate's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field from an accredited college or universityA combination of education and experience will be consideredOne to three years of experience with video surveillance systems including cameras, servers, and softwareMust have access to a personal vehicle.
