Job Summary As a Special Education Teacher at Georgia Cyber Academy, you will be responsible for creating strategies to engage and facilitate student learning, serving as a case manager and point of contact for students and parents, and monitoring academic progress to help prioritize student learning objectives. You will work closely with our team of educators and support staff to ensure that students receive the support they need to succeed in a virtual environment. Key Responsibilities Provide daily instruction and support to students with special needs in a virtual academic environment Create and implement individualized lesson plans that cater to the diverse needs of students Serve as a case manager and point of contact for students and parents, providing regular updates and progress reports Monitor academic progress and adjust instruction to meet the changing needs of students Collaborate with colleagues and support staff to ensure that students receive comprehensive support Utilize technology to facilitate student learning and engagement, including Zoom, Class, Canvas, Clever, and other online platforms Participate in professional development opportunities to stay up-to-date on best practices in special education and virtual instruction Attend required in-person professional development, state/fed testing administrations, community days, and graduation (approximately 20-25 days per school year) Essential Qualifications To be considered for this role, you must meet the following essential qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field Two (2) years of experience teaching special education or a related field State-certified Special Education Teacher with the required certifications for your level of instruction (Elementary, Middle School, or High School) Ability to commit to working in Georgia Preferred Qualifications While not required, the following qualifications are highly preferred: Virtual education experience High School teaching experience Familiarity with online platforms such as Zoom, Class, Canvas, Clever, and other educational technology tools Experience supporting children in the use of technology Certification Requirements The specific certification requirements for this role vary depending on the level of instruction: Elementary Special Education Teacher: SRT4 Certification in General Curriculum Special Education AND the Special Education Academic Content Areas (Math, Science, Social Studies, Reading, and English) P-5 Middle School Special Education Teacher: SRT4 Certification in General Curriculum Special Education and one of the Special Education Academic Content Areas 4-8 or 6-12 (Math, Science, Social Studies, Reading, and English) High School Special Education Teacher: SRT4 Certification in Special Education General Curriculum Consultative (P-12) and the (6-12) English, or Math, or Science, or Social Science core academic content Skills and Competencies To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following skills and competencies: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team Strong organizational and time management skills Flexibility and adaptability in a rapidly changing virtual environment Technical skills, including proficiency in online platforms and educational technology tools Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits At Georgia Cyber Academy, we are committed to supporting the ongoing growth and development of our teachers.
