What You'll Do: Key Responsibilities

As a Data Science Intern at arenaflex, you'll be an integral part of our Operations Research Data Science team. Your responsibilities will span the full data science lifecycle, from data exploration and analysis to model development and recommendation delivery. Here's what you can expect:


Data Exploration and Analysis: You'll query and analyze large datasets from various sources within the organization to uncover patterns, trends, and insights that inform business decisions. This includes working with structured and unstructured data to identify opportunities for optimization and improvement.
Predictive Modeling: You'll develop Python-based models to forecast behaviors and predict outcomes across multiple business functions. This includes building algorithms that support revenue management, customer segmentation, operational efficiency, and more.
Scripting and Automation: You'll write Python scripts and SQL queries to automate data processing, analysis, and reporting tasks. You'll learn to build scalable solutions that can be deployed across the organization.
Business Communication: You'll translate complex technical findings into clear, actionable recommendations for business leaders. This includes creating visualizations, presentations, and documentation that help stakeholders understand and act on your insights.
Independent Work with Collaboration: You'll work independently on assigned projects while being proactive about seeking guidance and asking questions. You'll collaborate with team members, cross-functional partners, and business stakeholders to achieve project goals.
End-of-Summer Presentation: At the conclusion of your internship, you'll present a summary of your work to the Operations Research team and business leadership, showcasing your contributions and learnings.


What We're Looking For: Minimum Qualifications

We're seeking candidates who are enthusiastic about data science and ready to make an impact. To be considered for this position, you must meet the following requirements:


Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
Have completed at least two years of a college degree program by the start of the internship
Be pursuing a degree in Data Science, Data Analysis, Operations Research, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related field
Be available to commit to the full 13-week summer internship program (May 13 – August 9, 2024)
Be able to work from the Atlanta, GA or Minneapolis St. Paul, MN office as determined during the interview process
Possess strong Python programming skills, including experience with data analysis libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, or similar tools
Have proficiency in SQL for querying and manipulating relational databases
Demonstrate excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills
Show a genuine interest in tackling complex problems and willingness to invest the time and effort needed to overcome challenges
Be committed to learning from mistakes and continuously improving
Have a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent secondary school credential
Be at least 18 years old and legally authorized to work in the United States

Experience with Large-Scale Data Processing: Ability to process significant volumes of data and information, with the skill to distill complex findings into clear, actionable insights that support decision-making
Machine Learning Development: Hands-on experience developing and deploying machine learning models, including familiarity with scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar frameworks
Cloud Platform Experience: Experience working with Amazon Web Services (AWS) or other cloud platforms for data storage, processing, and model deployment
Leadership and Problem-Solving: Demonstrated interest in learning management techniques and best practices for problem-solving and conflict resolution, with a drive to enable innovation and progress on challenging problems
Additional Programming Languages: Familiarity with R, Java, Scala, or other programming languages commonly used in data science and analytics
Domain Knowledge: Understanding of the transportation, logistics, or aviation industry, including familiarity with revenue management, operations research, or supply chain concepts
Data Visualization Tools: Experience with visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or matplotlib for creating compelling data visualizations
