Summary Penn Foster is seeking an experienced Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Medical Billing and Coding to support the development of an online Introduction to Medical Billing and Coding. This course serves both traditional-aged and adult learners pursuing a career in medical billing and coding. The SME will collaborate closely with Penn Foster’s Learning Design team to review, validate, recommend, and author course content that is accurate, engaging, and aligned with industry expectations and the Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS) exam. Key Responsibilities - Provide a current copy of resume. - Validate standards and domains covered in the CBCS exam. - Recommend the grouping and sequencing of standards, course competencies, and objectives. - Review course materials to identify gaps, outdated content, and opportunities for improvement. - Define key topics, terminology, depth of knowledge, and authentic examples or scenarios. - Validate the accuracy, alignment, and relevance of course content, multimedia assets, resources, and assessments. - Provide clear, actionable feedback and support content-specific questions throughout the course development process. Requirements - Experience teaching medical billing and coding. - Knowledge of national medical coding certification standards and domains (e.g., CBCS). - A bachelor's degree in medical billing and coding or related fields. - The ability to commit at least 10 hours per week for the duration of the project. - Experience reviewing or authoring course materials aligned to industry skills or certification standards. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
