Job Overview As a Student Payment Specialist, you will play a critical role in assisting students with detailed financial matters, providing exceptional customer service, and ensuring that students have a comprehensive financial plan in place. This role requires a high level of professionalism, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently in a fully remote setting. Key Responsibilities Review billing and accounting reports to initiate and implement student deferred payment plans (DPP), ensuring students have a financial plan that covers their out-of-pocket costs. Manage and assist with student inquiries regarding payment plans, balances due, and ledgers, providing timely and effective resolutions. Deliver payment plan email communications to students and maintain accurate records of student payment plan documents. Assist in weekly collection reporting for student payment plans and complete bursar department daily, weekly, and quarterly processes. Provide financial counseling to students regarding payment options and plans, and inform them of their financial obligations and available financial aid options. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to federal FERPA regulations when handling student account information. Represent the College in interactions with internal and external parties, including governmental agencies, vendors, students, and parents. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned, including backup support for campus financial aid staff and audit preparation. Requirements and Qualifications To excel in this role, you'll need: An Associate's degree (Bachelor's preferred) in a relevant field, with a minimum of two years of accounting or financial experience. Knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices, as well as budgeting procedures. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact diplomatically with diverse individuals. Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously. Aptitude for accuracy and detail, with a commitment to maintaining confidentiality. Proficiency in PC software and office equipment, with a strong understanding of office procedures. Preferred Skills and Competencies In addition to the essential qualifications, we prefer candidates with: Experience working in a student-centric environment, preferably in higher education. Knowledge of student information systems and financial aid processes. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve moderately complex administrative issues. A customer service-oriented approach, with a passion for delivering exceptional support to students and staff.
