Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented Quality Assurance (QA) Specialist with strong expertise in Power BI testing and Microsoft Fabric migrations. This role will play a critical part in ensuring data integrity, reliability, and performance across our reporting and analytics environment. The ideal candidate will combine front-end user testing skills (Power BI Service navigation, validating report usability) with back-end data validation (SQL queries, pipeline testing, data model checks).

As a Staff-level engineer, you bring deep technical expertise and serve as a trusted authority on complex testing solutions. You will play a key role in defining testing strategies, setting best practices, and guiding cross-functional teams through automation, performance, and quality assurance initiatives.

Education
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.

Professional Experience
• 10+ years of experience in QA Engineering or related roles.

Key Responsibilities:
• QA Strategy & Execution:
o Develop and implement QA strategies for data workflows, pipelines, and models within Microsoft Fabric.
o Establish repeatable testing processes to validate data quality, consistency, and accuracy across Power BI reports and semantic models.

• Testing & Validation:
o Test Power BI Service functionality, including navigation, permissions, and user interactions.
o Validate front-end report outputs and ensure consistency with underlying data sources.
o Query SQL backend sources to confirm data accuracy, transformations, and performance.
o Compare legacy vs. Fabric environments to ensure identical functionality and results.

• Automation & Documentation:
o Design and manage automated testing processes for pipelines, models, and integrations.
o Document test cases, scenarios, and outcomes in a clear, reproducible manner.
o Track and report quality metrics, ensuring SLAs for data availability and accuracy are met.

• Collaboration & Issue Resolution:
o Work closely with Business Analysts, Power BI Developers, Data Engineers, Modelers, and Governance Specialists to uphold data quality standards.
o Conduct root cause analysis for data-related issues and coordinate resolution efforts.
o Recommend improvements in testing frameworks, methodologies, and tools.

Required Skills & Experience:

• Proven experience in Power BI Service testing, including navigation, permissions, and report validation.
• Experience with Python
• Experience in ETL/Data Warehouse manual and automation testing experience using Great Expectations / Python Spark notebooks or any other BI tool.
• Ability to query SQL databases for back-end validation and issue troubleshooting.
• Comfort with Excel (pivot tables, lookups, comparisons) for validation and analysis.
• Strong understanding of data quality principles (completeness, accuracy, consistency).
• Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric and Azure environments.
• Knowledge of automated testing frameworks for data pipelines and integrations.
• Experience in defining, tracking, and reporting QA and data quality metrics.
• Strong documentation skills to create clear and repeatable test cases.
• Validation of Fabric pipeline ETL processes and semantic models.
• Hands-on experience testing data migrations to Microsoft Fabric.
• Experience with ETL validation and data pipeline testing.
• Proficiency in database systems (SQL) and data validation.
• Skilled in CI/CD pipeline integration (GitHub Actions, Jenkins).

• Exposure to continuous integration/continuous testing (CI/CT) practices.
