Staff Software Engineer - Marketplace Operations

The Community You Will Join: The Marketplace Operations team is chartered with building the platform and tooling to enable Airbnb to onboard and manage the best and highest quality supply in the world across all lines of business. This includes developing capabilities to optimize human operations, software platforms to model operations and AI to simplify and scale our systems. The team is highly collaborative and works very closely with product, operations, legal, design and works with global site teams. The Difference You Will Make: As a Staff Software Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the engineering architecture of our tooling and operations systems. You will be actively involved in both the development of new systems and the maintenance of existing platforms. Your designs will focus on scalability and flexibility, ensuring they meet current operational needs while also being adaptable to emerging requirements in this fast-paced environment. A key mission of our team is to optimize human operations and leverage AI for scalable solutions. This role demands innovation on your part, as you will take the initiative in identifying and capitalizing on opportunities while collaborating closely with partners across operations and legal departments. A Typical Day: As a Staff Software your role will include: • Design and develop next-generation services that drive innovation and efficiency. • Enhance and maintain existing platforms and services to ensure optimal performance. • Collaborate closely with operations, legal, product management, and design teams to align on strategic goals. • Mentor and foster the growth of engineers across the team, promoting a culture of continuous learning. • Establish and champion best practices, while exemplifying outstanding engineering behaviors for the team to emulate. Your Expertise: • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience • Over 9 years of industry experience in software development • Proficient in one or more back-end server programming languages (e.g., Java, C++) • Demonstrated expertise in architectural patterns for high-scale distributed products and services, including well-designed APIs, data pipelines, and efficient algorithms • Proven experience in developing and scaling tools and services that enhance human operations • Strong collaborative skills, with a track record of working effectively in cross-functional teams, including operations, legal, product, and design partners Your Location: This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed to with your manager.
