At MGM Resorts, we seek individuals like YOU to create unique and show-stopping experiences for our guests.THE JOB:We are seeking a Staff Commercial Data Engineer to architect and elevate the enterprise data platforms that power commercial decision-making across Gaming, Hospitality, Loyalty, and Marketing.This is a senior technical role responsible for defining the architectural direction of our Lakehouse ecosystem, ensuring enterprise reliability and governance standards, and mentoring engineering teams to build world-class data products. As the architectural owner of domain-wide data models and certified datasets, you will drive metric consistency, platform scalability, and business-aligned data solutions in close partnership with Data Science, Analytics, IT, and commercial leadership.THE DAY-TO-DAY:Serve as the architectural owner for enterprise data models, metric definitions, and semantic consistency across commercial domainsDesign and maintain certified, curated datasets aligned to business logic and executive reporting standardsArchitect and optimize high-scale Lakehouse solutions for performance, governance, cost, and lineageDefine enterprise conventions for partitioning, Z-ordering, file compaction, cluster sizing, and workload orchestrationBuild reusable ingestion, validation, and orchestration frameworksEstablish observability standards including freshness SLAs, anomaly detection, and schema drift monitoringImplement automated quality gates, impact analysis, and self-healing workflowsOwn performance tuning strategies across batch, streaming, and high-volume analytics workloadsLead high-severity incident response and drive long-term remediation strategiesMentor engineers and influence cross-functional platform modernization initiativesTHE IDEAL CANDIDATE:7+ years of prior relevant experience in data engineering, data platform, or analytics engineering roles5+ years of prior relevant hands-on experience in Databricks or equivalent Spark environmentsExpertise in Databricks and Lakehouse architectureStrong coding proficiency in Python, PySpark, and SQLExperience with Unity Catalog governance and permissionsProven implementation of data quality frameworks and observability standardsDeep knowledge of Delta Lake internals and distributed data processingExperience defining SLAs, anomaly detection, and automated monitoring frameworksExpertise in performance tuning, workload isolation, partitioning strategies, and compute optimizationStrong understanding of modeling patterns for analytics and operational systemsExperience building production-grade pipelines, reusable libraries, modular code standards, version control, and automated testingFamiliarity with Terraform, Airflow, and Databricks WorkflowsDomain experience in Gaming & Hospitality Operations, Loyalty & Customer Engagement, or Marketing & Commercial Analytics preferredAbility to translate complex technical architecture into clear, business-aligned narrativesTHE PERKS & BENEFITS:Prioritize your wellness, access programs crafted to nurture your mental and physical health.
