Sr. Unix/Linux Engineer (Contract – 3–6 Months)
Overview DevAltus is seeking a Sr. Unix/Linux Engineer for a 3–6 month contract supporting complex modernization and migration initiatives. This role is ideal for an engineer with deep Unix/Linux expertise who thrives in solving challenging infrastructure problems across enterprise-scale environments. You’ll work remotely within the Continental U.S., partnering closely with DevAltus architects and client stakeholders to deliver critical systems transformation work. Core Requirements • Extensive experience with Linux and Unix systems (RHEL, AIX, Solaris) in enterprise production environments • Hands-on cloud experience (AWS or Azure), including support or re-platforming of systems • Proven migration project experience — on-prem to Linux re-platforming or legacy modernization • Strong background with relational databases (Oracle, DB2, PostgreSQL) — integration, tuning, or application support • Coding proficiency in C, shell scripting, and at least one additional scripting language (Python or Perl) Ideal Profile • Skilled in troubleshooting legacy stacks, binary dependencies, and custom runtime environments • Strong diagnostic and performance-tuning skills at the OS, network, and runtime levels • Capable of reverse-engineering undocumented workloads to assist in modernization • Familiar with build systems, compilation, and low-level debugging • Confident collaborating with DevAltus architects and client stakeholders in enterprise contexts Contract Details 1099 hourly engagement Short-term contract: 3–6 months Must reside in the Continental United States Must be authorized to work in the United States.
